Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of help.

I've got a 2008 Cooper S with the JCW tuning pack (factory fitted). While driving to work the other day, the engine management light came on and the car was very juddery when sitting at low revs.

I've taken the car in to be looked at it and it transpires that there is a loss of compression in one of the cylinders. Now, I can't be exactly sure of what the issue is without stripping the engine down but researching into people with similar issues and speaking to some friends, it seems like it's potentially a hole in valve or a cylinder head problem.

Before I ask a garage to strip down and have to potentially pay thousands to repair. I just wanted to see if anybody else had similar issues before and what the outcome/cause was.

any help appreciated.

I would have a look at the coils and if there is an issue with one, replace the whole set. I think it is one per cylinder. I had a similar fault when I had my R56 Cooper S.

It is cheaper than an engine strip down.

All the best.

How did you check compression. If it has gone the best you can hope for is a valve that stuck. You could look at a second hand engine and a swope. Could be cheaper.
