I was a bit late to the next-gen console party as nothing really interested me, but I picked up a second hand console with a few games quite cheap and after enjoying a bit of GTA on the 360, I thought I would see how it compared..

I think having a reasonable spec PC has ruined me as I found it horrible to play.Sure, it's more polished (not amazingly so mind you) but it seems to be running at such a low frame rate that the first person mode and interior view driving were laughably bad.Even standing on the spot in third person view and spinning the camera made me feel like I was using a 5+ year old PC.

If anyone has a decent PC but is bored of waiting for that version to be released and is tempted to get a next-gen console just for this game, don't do it.I'm not sure what it's stuck at (30 fps or less?) but it is NOT the way to experience a game like this.

So why didn't you buy it for the PC then?

It's not out yet, but no wonder so many people have waited! They really pushed the 360 with GTA so I was expecting silky smooth gameplay on a next-gen console.Fortunately for me, it just came with the bundle so I didn't buy the console to play it.

Ps4 is a huge jump from last gen, especially with the latest update which has improved graphics further still.

But apparently it runs just as badly on the PS4? It's hardly next-gen if they have to drop below 60 fps on anything! The difference between a 30 fps game and a 60+ fps game is monumental.

IME the only slow down is connection lag my end.

I have no idea what FPS it runs at. Either way, you aren't going to get 60fps out of a £300 PC.

Seems like a bit of a pointless thread then tbh. Those who want to want to wait for it on PC can do so, and eventually play a mediocre game the rest of us played nearly 2 years ago.

They seem pretty similar to me. GTA V plays fine on the xbox one, I don't know what some people were expecting?

Because PC > console, so if you are used to PC a console will seem worse.

A perfect example! Look at the tops of the trees.Jerky as hell at 30 fps.Once you get a few cars on the track and need to make quick adjustments with steering etc, the difference in control and how 'real' it all feels is night and day.Nothing displays the need for a higher fps rate more than a racing game. They are utterly transformed in terms of playability at a higher frame rate.

I have always loved my consoles (owned them all), so this isn't a console bashing session, but I was pretty disappointed with what I saw.Apparently most titles don't run at 1080p, either and most never will!

Gta isn't a racing simulation though , it's a jack of all trades and as such will never shine at any one thing.

Gta isn't about admiring the grass blowing, it's about hooning around and shooting people (and arm wrestling)

Also I think Youtube vids are locked to 30 fps more or less, so you don't get a true representation of what 60 fps looks like in the above video.Everything changes at those rates.Inputs you make, reaction times, smoothness, realism....everything.

60 fps and 1080p seemed to be the banded about figures for next-gen consoles and it now turns out not to be the case.I know GTA is all about having a laugh etc, but it would still be a far better experience at a higher frame rate.I would rather they had left it looking exactly like the 360 version and used the extra horses to bump said frame rate.30 fps should be a thing of the past.As gaming experiences go, it's a huge backward step.

Erm, Youtube does 60fps videos now, it's right there in the quality settings.

If you think a PC is going to run GTAV at 60fps with all the settings turned up at 1080p or above for the price of a PS4 I think you're being a bit optimistic.

Despite you staring at tree tops when you should be racing, I honestly cant see much of a difference in that video to be honest.

GTA5 on the xbox one is judder free for me and I have never noticed slowdowns. I doubt going to 60fps would really make much of a difference to be honest. A ultra high end PC may manage it but a normal-ish one wont anyway; there is unbelievable quantities of things going on at once.

On console its a massive massive achievement I think.

I wouldn't be too upset, it's a load of crap. You're not missing much. To think, GTA used to be synonymous with quality...

The option doesn't show up in IE so you may have to use Chrome instead but if you watch in 1080p60 mode the difference is clearly visible. It does make a difference, it's less headache inducing for a start. But to sacrifice GTA's IQ in favour of 60fps just seems pointless. Great, it runs at 60fps, now I can see all those jaggies ultra smoothly!

8.1 seems like a fair score out of 10 for GTAV.

It's not just about what you see, it's about how it feels.Anyone saying it won't make much difference, isn't much of a gamer I'm afraid. You sit very much in the 'that will do' camp. For those like myself, it won't do.It is horrible. It is old.We were promised so much more and they don't seem to be delivering. There is nothing next gen about 30 fps.If you could choose the option after trying both, you would never EVER go back to 30 fps.

Btw, GTA was quite an achievement for a console, I agree, on the Xbox 360! As for the PC cost debate, my machine is quite old now.I run SLi and the cards are probably worth £100 each. The rest needed to make them work probably £200 to £300.It's not far off the price of a console, yet it still runs rings around the Xbox one.

60 vs 30.

As for youtube and 60 fps, do you just mean you select HD? If you right click and show the properties, most HD vids I watch rarely go above 40 fps.

There is also a push towards higher frame rates in cinema etc.The same reasons apply and the results are just as impressive.

As I say, I'm not bashing console gaming as I have loved almost every moment of my voyage and imported almost all of them to get them first (cost me a fortune, too!) , but this isn't next-gen.
