Williams must be feeling a bit glum.
Basically shows their performance last year was heavily dependent on having a big engine advantage. Now that advantage has gone we can see the car itself isn't that hot... 70 secs behind the winner and twice overtaken on pure pace by the Ferrari, even worse than last year. hairyben said:
So what was nico doing on friday, is he not able to supply the necessary tyre deg data?
that's a very good question...hairyben said:
but yes, given his near-thwarting of lewis pole coupled with his own inability to secure it, if the ferrari pace really is here mercedes might have to make a decision regarding making sure at least on of their drivers can finish as high as possible...
Really not sure what's going though his head, he's started playing games and it's not only hurting Lewis, but he's not exactly doing himself any favours.Park'O said:
Your talking tt kid. Technically Ferrari were 5secs down on the Mercs today than they were in Aus. Mercs got there strategy wrong today.
The Ferrari has come along but only over Redbull and Williams.
Any reason to be quite so rude? The Ferrari has come along but only over Redbull and Williams.
The development of the Ferrari is plain to see, Raikkonen did a great job (helped by the SC) to finish 4th.

Abiteboul's comments seem very interesting after dissecting this race. The ToroRosso's made the RB's look ordinary out there today.
Renaults PU needs work, but maybe the RB chassis' no good either? How do you explain it otherwise.
This is the first year Newey has stepped away from day to day work on the F1 car design. Newey Red Bulls were never high up on the speed trap timings, they made up for it with the chassis in corners. This year it's looking like the Newey lite chassis (and Prodromou leaving?) has left them with an average car. Renaults PU needs work, but maybe the RB chassis' no good either? How do you explain it otherwise.
James Key is highly regarded I believe so not really a surprise as such. Red Bull was probably too reliant on Newey's technical direction in the sense that people would gravitate towards him in regards to anything technical.
Now they probably rely on Horner more for leadership and it shows. Same with Ferrari, they now appear to have a good technical leader, Arrivabene appears to be quite engaging and people like that, hence better results and motivation.

I think it is quite boring constantly taking about Newey.... or Brawn for that matter. Takes more than 1 person to make a fast car. I'm sure Newey taking a step back hasn't helped but RB have lost quite a few other staff members as well; plus the average (at best) engine and losing their star driver. Too many factors come into play to blame it on the lack of 1 person's input.
Great race and nice to see all the people moaning about the first race being proved wrong! Bit of a shame that Hamilton couldn't at least close up to Vettel towards the end, but can't grumble, there were some great battles today.

They were well up one time when the rates were shown then we never saw it again.Let's hope the race isn't going to be decided by the book.

What a fantastic race. I was actually happy to see 'the finger' win, even though I'm a LH fanboy.
WOAH! Much as I like the idea of there being competition for first place, there are limits. You post has been reported!
