Looking at these as a replacement for our A4 avant. It will be our main family car doing the weekend work and for the wife to use for work. We have 2 boys (4 and 2) needless to say two bulky car seats to go in the back. Would ideally like space for a third person in the back with the child seats in place.

The Civic Tourer offers some fantastic luggage space and rear seat movement, but after looking at one in the showroom yesterday, actual seating room (width) didn't look that great. The boot was huge though.

The CR-V on the other hand gave an impression of far more seating space for rear occupants with the higher roof and more leg room, but a quick measure of the seat bench showed that it was similar to that of the Civic?

Anybody with experience of these two cars and rear seat capacity with child seats?

Why don't you take yourself down to a dealership and take a good look. If you are not bothered abou 15 model cars, you can buy a 15 plate, 14 model year Civic or CRV before the end of the month at very (and I mean very) competitive prices.

If not, the DTEC's are the pick of the range. The new 1.6 in the CRV mated to the new 9 speed auto box is exceptional.

bought a 12 ex edition cr-v with 2.2 i-dtec for the 'new' family lugger'. if your family is a recent edition then getting the baby seat or the baby out of its seat is a lot easier due to the height and easy access. there is good room in the back of the car as well. the boot space is decent and when seats go down its very spacious.
its not a bad driver at all ... but don't be expecting a sports set up. very competent and nice cruiser. due to the weight of the vehicle i would prefer the 2.2 unit instead of the wee 1.6 ... its close to 2 ton.
