Galaxy 2003 2.0 Diesel Auto - Engine malfunction warning
Discussion
Been doing it for months. Started off coming on 5 minutes into journey now it comes on immediately.
No other issues. I've got an OBCD reader and no codes.
Dont really want to go to dealer and pay £50 for it to be turned off.
Any ideas?
BTW- any way to run diagnostics?

Hi Paul,
I don't know if this applies to the Galaxy, but on the Focus you can access the diagnostic menu by holding the Set button and keeping it held whilst switching the ignition on. Pressing Set will then cycle through some tests and you can check if any DTC codes have been stored there.
If you're experiencing any slight hesitation as well, it might be worth checking the turbo hoses aren't split anywhere. My dad's 2.2 Mondeo briefly gave the malfunction warning message and there was a split in the intake hose to the EGR valve.
Otherwise you'll have to get the codes read somewhere. Cheap OBD readers are great, but they will only pick up generic codes, mainly related to emissions. I had an Engine Systems Failure message + limp mode on my Focus a while back; my OBD showed no codes. Could have been any number of things which would trigger that message so took it to a local independant who diagnosed failed glow plugs which cured it: they charged £20 for diagnosis. They probably had a diagnosis system from someone like Snap-On which would probably read lots of manufacturer-specific codes. I'd imagine a system like that is pretty pricey!
Hope you get it sorted
Chris

Push button starter. Will this still work?I don't know if this applies to the Galaxy, but on the Focus you can access the diagnostic menu by holding the Set button and keeping it held whilst switching the ignition on. Thanks for info on OBD - I didnt know this to be honest. Looks like best bet is to get code read properly then.
