Lads,

I've just treated myself to what will be my ultimate Track Toy - a completely stock 2008 e92 M3 with manual box. My intentions are to track as much as possible during the coming season including two trips to the Nurburgring. I have a list as long as my arm of things I want to do, with the main ones being (no particular order):

Coilovers - KW Clubsport 2way
Uprated brakes / BBK - Pads/ Lines/ Fluid/ AP Racing
Track wheels - Apex ARC 8's 18x10/10.5
Recaro SPG's
Schroth 4 pt harnesses with harness bar
Rear seat delete
OEM wheel retrim in Alcantara
OEM exhaust mod
CAE Short shifter - Already ordered

I am therefore open to all suggestions on which route to go with the above parts. I've listed the parts I think I want but nothing is set in stone if you can provide a convincing argument / alternative.

I'll be updating as I go on my instagram account @petrolheed #projectTT

Look forward to your ideas!

The Shifter love

Spend more on suspension, it'll make the biggest difference.

Mmm, with my driving skills I doubt it but can you please make a suggestion what I could go for?

It'll depend on your budget TBH.

In your position I'd do tyres, suspension, pads, seats and harnesses and then lighten it as much as you can.

I am doing the above.

There's no budget as such however I am new to the game and its a hobby / occasional use thing - I wont be competing. So you say spend more - how much more, what, and why..?

Something you can spec springs rates with. Last time I checked, you can only spec spring rates with KW Clubsports.

When I had my trackday E36 M3 I started on low-end Intrax coilovers and then moved to £3.5k's worth of Black Art Design kit, which was three-way adjustable.

It was night-and-day different on the BAD kit - much, much better ride on the road and much, much better handling, traction and stability on track.

I won't pretend that I knew the ins-and-outs of how to set it up myself, so there's value in finding someone who does, who can give you a decent baseline and then you can tinker from there.

I am going for Clubsports - just noticed I typo'd them with V2 when I meant 2 way. So KW Clubsport 2 way was my intentions.

The reason KW's have swayed me just now is due to reasonable ease of use and adjustability as well as requiring no maintenance / rebuild.

Tuition.

Take the standard car on track & learn to to drive it properly.

Then, if there are aspects you dont like (brakes probably), start tinkering.

Soooooooooooo many people modify cars before even assessing the blank canvas properly first!

I don't disagree (entirely) but we all know that a standard road car can be improved for trackdays, and there's a well-trodden path to do it.

Tuition is a very sensible idea, but it need not be one or the other.

A friend and i are hoping to do this on our next trip to the Ring and I may also consider it in UK though I think I want to learn a bit about the car before hand.

I agree that many throw £thousands at these cars without any of the skills, however as the e92 stands in standard form - it doesn't particularly excite me. Yup, a good driver in a standard car will probably be quicker than me in my tarted up version but its not just about times. No rear wing though or will need to be fast :-D

Somebody on PH did a fairly intense e92 build, should be able to find it. Enormous amount of work went into it.

Ap brake kit for the 18" rims
Wheels and tyres which you have covered and keep to 18" as far more choice of tyre
Kw 3 way Clubsport worth the difference in price over 2 way.If you are going over to the Ring then maybe worth ordering and getting them fitted at Raeder Motorsport next to the Ring as the best E92 i ever drove around the ring was set up by Christophe at Raeder or they will set it up if you fit it in the UK.
Seats are a good choice that you listed.
Steering wheel from BMW motorsport also feels great.

You can just keep going and going but the weight is a big killer but saying that there are some really quick E92 cars at the Ring in all stages of modification.Me and a few friends keep our cars there and have done since 2010 and have spoken to and been in all specs of car.

Was hoping you'd chime in at some point Andy - hope you don't mind me contacting you by email shortly.

The car pictured isn't mine however the wheel is a performance steering wheel I think. I haven't got the shifter yet either as I only ordered at weekend and it's to come from Germany - I will report back once fitted though. Should be crispy.

No pictures of car as I only bought it Saturday - completely standard in silverstone II.

Also made a small start on CAE prep which should go in this weekend
