Quick header advise
Discussion
After a little help if possible, new here with a 04 cv8
Are the vxr headers a worthwhile upgrade or is it better to go for a full long header setup ie pacemakers
Yo
Currently a very good friend is working for BMW in Sydney and had managed to sort some fairly good shipping rates.
Hsv shorty headers are cheap and plentiful in Australia but are they worth it?
The car is fairly low, but I am budget conscious also. No stranger to cars having just sold my e30 v8 racecar as I wanted to make a change to the ls motor.
Various other plans with the motor so another question is will the shorty headers become a limitation, I am talking bolt ons only, maybe cam/supercharger
Hope that makes sense!

Yes, the stubbies are better than your cast manifolds, but whether they are the ones to go for depends how far you want to take the modifications.
There's a set of VXR headers on ebay at the moment in the UK (Kent) if you decide that's what you need at the moment. They're owned by VinceM, so you can always PM him, and see what he wants for them, and if he will pull his auction. Probably still cheaper than getting a set freighted from Oz.

Yup send me a PM if you're interested.
The stubbies will pose no issues with ground clearance on standard suspension. I've got long tube headers on mine now, with standard suspension (at the moment) and again no ground clearance issues so far but I know lowered cars can scrape the headers over speed bumps although from what I've read that varies from car to car. I can't see that you'd have issues with the shorty headers as they are a factory fit product.

I'm interested in them as well, been after a set of those for a while but being 400 miles+ north of you collection only makes it impossible. Think you'd have gotten more bidders if you'd priced courier delivery costs and offered it as an option.
It's a lot of messing around which is why I was reluctant to, but I'm sure we could come to some arrangement. I haven't bought anything for my Monaro recently so haven't got any packing material to recycle at the moment, not enough to do a set of headers lol OP. Long tube headers are better for peak performance at higher rev ranges. If you are a dyno queen and are chasing numbers, or if you want peak performance on the track or drag strip, Long Tubes would be the ones to go for.
The shorty headers will give you an increase in average power throughout the rev range, so these will be an ideal upgrade from the stock cast iron items and give good mid range power too.
I had 1.5/8" shorties on a supercharged 6.0L motor that made 705 fwhp. It drove very well and sounded just awesome. I think these will be ideal for a mildly tuned 5.7L car.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you all very much for the advise!
Vince ill pm you regarding your set, i can come and collect as im only based in Hampshire
I did look to see where you were, before suggesting. There's a virtual shuttle service, between Hampshire and Kent, with the Hampshire Mafia visiting Kent for bacon sarnies, and the Kent Chapter travelling to Hampshire for cars and KFCs. Fair enough, I'd assume the stuff unbolts into bitesize chunks suitable for a small boot Ro, could be wrong though! Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
