The mosquitos in the woods are the biggest buggers I have ever seen, you may come out of the woods bitten to death! Be warned. Theres a golf course, fishing lakes, big fences, but it is possible if you use a stealth approach
This was at sun rise between the two chicanes from the infield

The noise these cars make puts hairs up on the back of your neck, the armco barriers resonate with a high pitched vibration, brilliant.
I did get even closer but then after going all that way over fences etc, the bloody mobile phone battery died! Typical
trouble is the closer to the track you get the easier it is for you to be spotted as marshals and police are looking down the length of the armco.

You can go to the restaurants on the mulsanne and get some restricted views but not like you could 10 years ago, the best views for cars going at full pelt are after mulsanne corner on the walk from the car park to the corner itself, you walk alongside the track for several hundred yards

Thanks for the welcomes!
Yes I am from the US, but now living in Europe.
I've been to hundreds of races over my lifetime and Le Mans is on the bucket list. Thus, my son and I are planning on going this year. We are a bit late in the game, but still looking for a good place to camp and some way to get some good grandstand seats. (have already bought standing tickets).
Can't wait!!

I believe access during the race to these fast food outlets is legal - the pizza place has a rooftop area, as (I think) does the kfc. I also remember reading that kfc was open 24 hrs last year.

There are also new places to eat on the other side, but they are further back and only at ground level, so unlikely to see much.
Plus that's where I'll be (in orange)and I do like a quiet life - race cars excepted.

It's the experience itself that's special - there are already plenty of vids on youtube!
Exactly, we did it for the hell of it to say we had done it Not being funny, but being that close to the barriers and the cars going at those speeds is Er rather scary, especially if you think of what could happen! The cars are running full on at that point, It sobers you up rather quickly

Done this a few times.
Found a very nice clearing a few years back. There was already a group watching, so went and stood next to them. Said hello etc. One said we had to leave in broken English. We said we would just stand for a few minutes and thanked him for his concern. He then disappeared. Came back 2 minutes later with a shot gun and asked us politely to leave again.
It appeared that we had wandered into his back garden.
So, it's not just mossies you have to look out for!
Well worth the walk through the woods though.
Used to be able to stand at the armco. That was scary in the rain. Walked off of my own accord that time.

On one of my early years marshalling Le Mans with my good friend turbo-ww we spent a less than comfortable couple of hours in the company of a similarly inclined local. Midnightish roughly halfway between antares and first chicane. First off he found out we were english speakers "merde, je me tue les anglais" but I had enough french in my head to calm him a bit. Then he offered us calvados, which we had to turn down, so then it was a glass of fresh water from the butt. Grin and take yer chances time. He kept us highly entertained with tales of how he would use his gun on anybody coming through his garden.Found a very nice clearing a few years back. So, same guy maybe, would have been 97 or 98?

Could be.
He stank of garlic if that helps.
from memory the guy had been working all day and garlic may just have been a small part of his odour issues. He stank of garlic if that helps.
But even that miasma was overpowered by the sound of banjo music in my head
Especially when he invited us into his "house" after the end of the qually session.
And no, we fked right off, as soon as we could.
so beware those on black ops - there ARE seriously bad things out there in the woods
pray too you never end up in the property of "lord of the flies" fat kid - he craves company
