It's interesting that Louis's style has never changed, but the topics covered have been very diverse.

Thinking back to his weekend with stuff, he spent time with both J Savile and the PR (done for rape) guy.

I found it rather boring and disappointed. Can't put my finger on why.

Love Louis Theroux previous documentaries and re watched most of them quite recently on netflix however this latest one I just couldn't get on with it, can't put my finger on why but enough that I didn't watch it all and deleted tonight's from the planner. Shame as I was looking forward to it.

Some very sad stories in this. Big lad who has done something terrible to (presumably) his mother seems very remorseful about his actions, but also like a very angry guy just below the surface.

Something that just occurred to me... How do the guys in these places shave?
Presumably they do not have access to razors - so do they get shaved by nurses or...?

Not a very important question I accept, but just something that came to mind.

Sad stories, as said.

Is there another show/person who looks at really uncomfortable stuff like this?

What is more sad...not sure, what damage that a parasitic mind virus like religion can have on the vulnerable, or how blind/incompetent others can be when dealing with said vulnerable types.

The psychiatrist dancing around the issue of religious experiences was certainly interesting.

I enjoyed it. Much less of a slapstick feel to it than previous, but more powerful for it I think. Very tragic stories all round.

I watched this on iplayer last night, fantastic - looking forward to part 2, any ideas when that's on guys?

I agree about the psychiatrist - I've met a couple in my time (through uni) and they can be very very strange individuals! Sometimes hard to tell the difference between them and the patients.

They are given a razor and it is returned immediately after shaving, most of them will be watched while shaving, The razor will be inspected on return before being disposed of. Or they will have their own electric shaver if permitted.

An interesting program, I thought it was better than some of Theroux's other stuff.

Loved the part where the doctor was dancing around the issue of religious and spiritual experiences..... very fine line between normal and insane.
I'm not keen on psychiatry in general, it seems like a medical specialty that has a way of pathologizing normal behavior (or at least understandable reactions to environmental circumstances) and thinking everything requires a chemical cosh 'treatment'.

But ultimately they are doing a difficult job looking after people who are potentially quite dangerous but also very unwell.

I thought the subgroup of patients being treated purely so they are well enough to stand trial was a bit odd. Surely if they should stand trial or not depends on whether or not they were unwell at the time they committed a crime.

I have similar reservations about the field but they appear to be doing some good work anyway.
