Hi all,

Looking for some advice and what direction to go with my career.

I'm currently a trainee instrument designer in the oil in gas industry with a HNC in measurement & control engineering.

The company I work for offer to pay for any further qualifications through a grant from ECTIB so I'm looking to take advantage of this but, not sure what direction to go.

Do I continue with the HND in measurement & control or go straight on to the degree? Would I be better doing a different subject i.e chemical engineering?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to consider what you ultimately want to achieve. Having your employer pay for further qualifications these days is a huge benefit - so you'd be mad not to take advantage of that.

O&G is not the certain thing it once was. Having transferable skills is a must I'd say.
Chemical Engineering is a sound idea, but look at the end game. Are there jobs available in the industry that you want to do? What qualifications are they looking for and are you happy to carry on training to get them.

Have a good think. Choosing the wrong course is a waste of time and a ball ache. Completing the wrong course and ending up in a job you dislike is a waste of life.
