New Discovery Sport Arrived (photos)
Discussion
Picked up my wife's DS today it's a HSE with Black Pack. Traded in a 2012 Evoque Dynamic which lost £12k over 33k miles and 3 years.
A lot has been upgraded including the auto box and the media/comms. It has keyless entry. The ride is much better. The leather seats are about the same as quality as the Evoque. Some of the dash plastics are slightly less luxurious than the Evoque but more practical. All the hype about waiting for the new engine seems a bit over the top because its very quiet, more so than the old Evoque. My wife prefers the higher seating position and there's loads more room for the kids who are teenagers now.

It's a big improvement on the previous disco.
It's not a Disco. It replaces Freelander and it's an Evoque underneath - hence the OP's comments comparing it to Evoque.I like the car, but to be honest that's not a look I'd be happy with in a car my missus was driving. It's a bit 'in yer face'.

I like it, very different and refreshing to see these kinds of colour combinations.A lot has been upgraded including the auto box and the media/comms. It has keyless entry. The ride is much better. It's a freelancer replacement if anything. With the new branding
I like it. I wouldn't drive it myself as it's a bit too 'bling' for my tastes but it's a smart motor that brightens up the roads a little.
But, seeing as everyone else is saying what they really think, when I had a look at one in the showroom it didn't really float my boat. It feels too much like a normal car inside in terms of seat / ride height and cabin space. I don't quite understand why you'd buy one over a normal car (with four wheel drive).
Still very nice though!

So this new disco replaces the old disco and the freelander?

Nope. It replaces Freelander. This is not "new disco". "old disco" continues, to be replaced in 2016. Discovery and Discovery Sport are completely different vehicles.
I think there's a massive risk for LR that customers will do what the OP has done, and move from other LR models, especially Discovery and even RangeRover. So LR will sell the same number of vehicles, but more of them will be the cheaper Discovery Sport.
The DS is a slightly bigger Evqoue with a bit less bling - perhaps not in this case They share the same chassis, engine, gearbox, controls etc. The DS has better suspension that will be adopted by the Evoque when it is updated probably later this year. The DS is a replacement for the Freelander in the new Discovery range but LR have increased the price substantially over the Freelander so they can sell less cars more profitably and further improve their brand value, which in turn reduces depreciation making their customers happy. They are also limiting supply of new cars in the UK. There is a 6 month waiting list for pretty much all of their range that is also helping second hand prices high. It seems to be a win-win strategy for LR and their customers.
