Hi, I purchased my TVR Chimaera on Friday was so excited ! 10 miles into the journey home it quits 5 hours later on a recovery lorry, Gutted!! I think it mite be fuel was running fine up until it stopped. It all of a sudden smelt hot for a second and then stalled, went to fire it up again splutterd about but no joy. It turns over fine and and and almost wants to start, im thinking could it be fuel pump ? Does any body have any ideas ? Thank you. Gutted!!

Fuel pump relay rather than the actual pump, but worth spending some time checking the electrical side first.

My Griff did this, and it was the fuel pump relay. Trouble was, it kept blowing relays. In the end, a new fuel pump was fitted, and Paul at X Works changed the way the pump was wired up. No problem since.

where did you buy it from? Do they have any ideas as it seems strange for it to break down so soon after buying.

Turn on the ignition (dont start) and listen carefully in the drivers foot well as you do. There should be a click as 2 relays close- one of these is the fuel pump relay. You should then hear a second click about 2 seconds later as the fuel pump relay releases (as the engine is not running). If you hear this sequence and the relays are working, then you should also hear the fuel pump run from the rear of the car as a whirring hum for a couple of seconds. If you hear the clicks, but the pump does not run, then the relay contacts could be faulty.

And to help you locate them in the rats nest of TVR wiring, in the passenger footwell behind a carpeted pull back panel is the battery and ECU and, fuseboard and lots of wires. The fuel pump and ECU relays are attached to the end of loose wires hanging out of the loom. They should be silver.

Blue socket for fuel pump relay. Good luck. I presume it has plenty of fuel in the tank.

Dont be too worried- its all fix able with a bit of know how and sensible diagnostics. They are not that complex.

Its a good idea to go round the car and replace every relay and protect every electrical connection you find with copper grease. No worries after for a few good years smile
