leading a company on
Discussion
Hi all
Got an interview at my current place of work for a senior position, ive worked hard and told them i want the job.
Problem is after telling them and others i want this job ive just been contacted by another company wanting to discuss a job offer which will pay more.
Now is it immoral, that if i got offered the job at my place i initially accepted until i spoke to this other company as i cant make the decision in 2 days

I'd continue on my chosen path and be happy to discuss any offers in the interim. Until one of those offers becomes real with a contract that needs signing, then they remain discussions. Good luck!
So accept the offer if offered and then get in negotiations with the other company and then possibly tell my boss one month down the line ive changed my mind?dieseluser07 said:

Yes. Although the few times it has happened where I worked it was understandably not looked on favourably. Depends how small the industry is and whether you want to burn bridges with your current company.

It's not immoral. At the end of the day your primary responsibility is to your friends/family. What you have to weigh up is the "risk" of the new job not materialising (thereby putting you in an awkward position with your current boss/colleagues) against the reward of more pay/better prospects.boxst said:

Proceed with current company as if new opportunity doesn't exist until the day you need to leave
Is that not burning bridges though at that will take about a month and they would have to readvertiseDSLiverpool said:
If you need / want to go back then obviously don't do that but sentiment and business seldom go hand in hand. Tell your current employer nothing as it may backfire more than if you do tell them
Well i dont know what my future plans are but obviously they supply this regionOP,
Continue on current path with empolyer. Talk to alternative. IF they want you, and IF you want them, you then have options - the discussion starts with current employer stating soundly that the process began BEFORE current employer gave you a promotion.
If your manager is rational, they will understand that you would have not looked elsewhere if they'd got their finger out. You can then either squeeze them for more money "like it here and want to stay but the pay gap is huge and the missus / my dad / my dog is giving me hell about it", or you just up and leave.
Read any business magazine, Forbes and whatnot and you'll see that in 99% of cases, the way to bigger salaries is to move around. You won't be blacklisted anywhere, and once on a bigger ticket you tend to stay there...

Indeed.
Of course for most people money has to be a factor, but having a job that you enjoy working with good people is worth an awful lot!!
Well i wont be speaking to this other employer until after my interview so i could say i got approached afterwardsOf course for most people money has to be a factor, but having a job that you enjoy working with good people is worth an awful lot!!

So which one would you want?!
My point being, could you speak to your current employer about matching (or nearly matching) the salary on offer from the other company and you'd be happy to stay?
I know what the pay is like at my company they pay low in comparison to the competing company so they would not match the other salary. My point being, could you speak to your current employer about matching (or nearly matching) the salary on offer from the other company and you'd be happy to stay?
Job wise i dont know to be honest one is worse paid/more stressfull but close to home, the other is better paid easier but most likely more boring and i would travel 3 days and home for 4

That would kill it off for me, as I get bored too easily as it is.Job wise i dont know to be honest one is worse paid/more stressfull but close to home, the other is better paid easier but most likely more boring and i would travel 3 days and home for 4
What is the difference in salary? Are we talking £1-2k, or is it more like 20% difference?
