Battery recommendations
Discussion
I need to get a new battery asap as I have the MOT booked this week and just found that mine is as dead a a dodo. Won't charge or even register on my Optimate box - I know, I should have left it connected.....................
I have a 2.9 V6 and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations.
Cheers,
SteveO

Battery I have had for a while 7yrs + is a VARTA L2 400/640 CCA but I cannot find it listed any more. I believe that its equivalent is this one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VARTA-E13-570-409-064-Car-Battery-TYPE-096-12V-70AH-640CCA-3-Yrs-Wrnty-/201253055666?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2edb9decb).
Never had a problem with it and frequently disconnect it when I'm away (2mths in every 3). Even when reconnecting it I have only had to charge it after having left it for up to 1yr!

Modern electronic chargers are not very good with completely dead batteries, sometimes you can get the charge to start by jumping the dead battery off a good one. It just gives the dead battery enough volts to recognise it.I have a 2.9 V6 and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

Thanks for the links Gents.
I didn't know the 'jump-charge' trick so just popped down the garage and hooked up a battery I'd kept from my old Merc' diesel. It gave enough juice to get the Optimate to recognise the Varta so fingers crossed I can get it charged over the next 24 hours.
Many thanks again,
Steve

Might well be worth adding this one to the list. I am a great believer in having more battery power than I need so I have gone for a 74amp hr. Exide Excell EB 740 (type LO3 for the correct terminal arrangement). £51+vat as Europarts were having an end of winter battery 'sale'.
Size 278 x 175 a 190high. I think that 190 high could be pretty important. That size will just fit in my tray.
It does mean there isnt enough room for a clamp but the clamp wasnt good anyway and I have always preferred the strap over arrangement, so I got a nice new red cam strap out of the money I saved! (Does that sound like a womans argument? Or is that just too sexist?)
