Hello all,

I'm finally getting round to going to the gt racing at oulton. Even though I live 25 mins away I've never been to the racing. Barring the super bikes and I was dropped outside for that .

So, where should I park up, if it matters I've an 8 year old with me. Initial thoughts are knicker brook so i can sit in the car for bits if required. However , could be a bit of a track to the centre bit to soak up the atmosphere. Any thoughts , can I literwlly parks anywhere when inside ?. I know the circuit pretty well as I've just driven in a few times and nosed the track day cars.

GT's are usually pretty busy on the bank holiday Monday. Take the main entrance and park on the infield. If you get there early you'll be able to pick a spot by the track, best option is on the main bank by the conference buidling or whatever it is smack bang in the middle of the track.

I've been going to Oulton for various things for 20 odd years and always gone in via Knickerbrook entrance as it's the quietest getting in and out.

Also, if you choose to go in this way, don't follow all the traffic and go via the Main entrance road, go through Eaton village which brings you in from the other side which practically no one else uses.

Whereabouts are you coming from?

Middlewich. Iused to commute that way too alot to wrexham so i know the roads you speak. When in knickerbrook whats the deal parking wise ?. Do you park where you want, I assume getting there early enough alows you to pull up with the bonnet facing the track and you can just sit and watch sat inside can you ?

I always park at Knickerbrook, park where you want, it can be very cold for the GT meeting, it's snowed in the past, so watching from inside the car can be a good idea, weather was quite pleasant last year though.

Get up and walk around! GT3 cars are bloody fantastic around Oulton so watch them kerb-hop through Brittens, thread the eye of the needle turning into Old Hall (watch on the outfield) or wander from Clay Hill down to Druids - the speed they carry through that section of the circuit is mind-blowing. Enjoy!

Go in via Lodge - early . Stand at Deer Leap and your 8 year old will run out of adrenalin in minutes - and hearing too. Take some protection for him. And as Chevron says- keep on the move - worth watching by start finish, Old Hall etc.

Excellent thanks, only thing that concerns me is the plan was to get an early dart. Dont want to get a perfect space early but then get blocked in the whole day till 6.

You won't get blocked in; lots of parking via Lodge including opposite start /finish

Ok cheers.

Interestingly , searching Oulton park on google maps brings up an incredibly busy race day. Very carefully looking I think I see a few bikes, so Im guessing the british super bikes. Straight away you can the see the popular spots and pick out a good one for yourself !. Although very difficult to guage hills/gradients . Very interesting to look at though , especially for a newbie.

Not sure how this compares to the GT/F3 ?

The GT meeting gets decent crowds, nowhere near the BSB attendance though

This.

I would also say to go for the Knickerbrook entrance. There is a foot bridge over to the centre there and you can see much of the circuit from there. The other option is to park in the infield overlooking Knickerbrook from the inside but how good a space you get depends on how early you want to be there.

We are usually there 90 minutes before the first race and it is getting busy there and finding a spot next to my position at Kickbrook (if I am there and not Druids) is sometimes a challenge even then! There is a hardcore of spectators who go to most meets who set up their row of folding chairs and flasks good and early in the day on the top of the bank - it might tell you something that they are there all the time, every year as to how good a spot it is...

Not sure when the first race is, but I could easily be there for 9 / half past. That's the plan so far.

So I'm back !.

Firsts things first. Lessons learnt :

Take sun Cream !. My daughter survived with the aid of a rapidly purchased Lewis Hamilton cap, i didn't.

You cant sit in your car and watch the racing at pretty much any point down the old hall entrance.

Take a chair ! - im knackered !

I had little idea what was going on at any point.

Rocked up at the old hall entrance at 8.50 , early bird catches the worm. Plenty of space , foggy and moist though. Within 30 mins cars are getting stuck all over the place but swiftly fixed by dropping the rope stopping you turning directly onto the field and allowing quick parking and not having to trek through everyone else's tracks.

Watched the first GT race down the first finish straight and then walked all the way round old hall , dentons and then to cascades on the outside of the circuit. Crikey they are loud , and the Mercedes is just dirty , incredible.

Wandered back over the deer leap bride and into the paddock area where there was an amazing attendance of Italian exotica . Lovely stuff.

Walked to see nearly every corner including shell oils, that was a bit of a trek but worth it, the weather in the afternoon was glorious , and without any protection quickly turned painful.

I realise now if I wanted to sit in the car and watch , knickerbrook is definitely the place, a lovely view, this may have also saved a bit of the face from melting.

All in all a success, pretty well planned but definitely a few tweeks for next time. Might think about the touring cars , but this is bound to be packed and less relaxing and open in the paddock areas.

Great day out!

That Merc, awesome! biggrin

Saw the De Tamaso Pantera fire up, literally! It was a bit flooded and when it did start, flames burst out of the carbs!!! Fortunately the guy got out and smothered the flames and put them out. Seemingly it's not the first time this has happened!

Glad everyone enjoyed it. First experience for me, and a fair step up in attendance to what we were used to in Caterhams! Solid weekend though....3rd in GT4 Race 1, and had a great race up to 5th (in the end) from last after the transmission shat itself pulling away for the pace car lap and I had to stop at Cascades to turn the car off and on again! Had a fantastic race with Ross Gunn in the Beachdeen Aston in Race 1. Bring on Rockingham. There are rumours the council might let us put on a display in the town centre on Friday!
