I had a no claim, no damage accident a while back and now my insurance is up for renewal. In theory I should fess up to this but how do I check to see if the accident is recorded anywhere? Police stopped for 30 seconds, accepted the 'just a little bump, no damage officer' and went on their way.

You can't check, the fog of confusion around no claims bonuses, claims histories and modifications is exactly how the insurers like it.

Did you report the accident to your insurance company.Although you said there was no damage to your car was there damage to another car.Was it your fault or a no fault claim. Was it reported to the third party insurance. If there was no cost for the insurance company your NCB should be the same and your renewal about the same.

If you had an accident and no damage to either car and did not tell the insurance companies then they would not know about it and sure the police would not tell them as they probably dont have the insurance company details.

There is a way to check if a car has been reported as having been in an accident and clearly insurers have a way to check against individuals, the general public would have no access to the latter database though.

Brilliant. Standard faute nowadays for a load of crap to be posted as fact.

There is a database it's called the Claims Underwiting Exchange or CUE for short.

http://www.insurancedatabases.co.uk

And, oh look, here's the form to filling to see what information they hold on you.

http://www.insurancedatabases.co.uk/media/2893/dat...

Of course this won't stop the usual suspects from spouting crap next time a similar question is asked.

As for whether anything will be recorded, it's as simple as one of the posters has stated ie did you report the claim, or was a claim made by the other driver? If the answer is no to both of those then there will be no record.

The police do NOT report accidents to insurers and insurers do NOT report accidents to the police.
