I've got a Breitling Colt Automatic which I've had around 10 years. I last had it serviced 4 or 5 years ago and it definitely needs done again. The first action of clipping over the clasp no longer has any resistance and I'm regularly dropping / stopping over night.

I am fairly sure the Breitling direct price was ~£270 the last time it was done but I'm seeing £150 for an automatic now. Am I mistaken?

What do you think the chances are of dealing with the clasp issue on the basic service?

Bear in mind that £150 for a "maintenance service" isn't a full service of the movement. All it consists of apart from seals etc is re-oiling the escapement. Ask round any serious watchmaking forum and you'll see exactly what watchmakers think of that idea. They also warn that any parts not specifically included in the "service" will be charged extra, so it's unlikely they'd include a clasp.

If it's this type of clasp:

then the "click" is created by those two punch marks towards the left hand end. They distort the inner edge so that it grips the centre piece. Find a local watchmaker and they'll tighten it for you with no problem at all.

Thanks for the advice, that is the strap I have. Any suggestions where I should go for the clasp adjustment?

After that I'll take it to Breitling on New Bond St for it's service.. or just do it all together?

I dont have a problem paying extra for consumables, but 150 is a better starting point than 270 was the last time round!

Whereabouts are you? Someone here may be able to suggest someone local tp save posting it around the country.

Highbury / Angel or Central London is best.

Just get breitling to do it all especially since they say they refurb the clasp with the maintenance service. I have a lot of goodwill towards them to be honest, I 'think' I left the crown open on my bentley 6.75, and filled it with pool water and suntan lotion. Sent it off (admittedly for bloody ages) but when I got it back they didn't charge me a penny as a 'goodwill gesture'. Honestly thought I was going to get killed for that. I have a vague suspicion that maybe the seal had gone and the crown had popped open, but only because they did it free.

Well, just to balance that, I left the crown open and went swimming.
It cost around £600 for new face, hands, service and polish.
It's a bit like Trigger's broom now. I'm certainly on the 3rd steel bracelet in 15 years, after 3 Shark Skin straps to begin with.
B-UK have always done the work and I trust them implicitly. Just quite costly.
