Autocar - Toyota/BMW

There are some encouraging noises from both camps - is this going to happen?
Seems to be dragging on... still.

I hope so, the roads can only be better for a monster like that being on them - looks stupidly good!

That looks absolutely bonkers. Not sure about the exhaust detailing but its one heck of a head turner.

Not too sold on the BMW version

I like it, what's the BMW version?

Fingers crossed between them they come up with a new GT86 but with a NA BMW 3.0 straight six. A round 300bhp and say 1250kg would be fine ;-)

Not keen on bmw version, looks like somone sat on a z4.

Hope it happens. Seem strange that this will be a Toyota and not a Lexus.

Love that Supra, prefer it to the BMW version, but I don't dislike it either.

Supra looks amazing.

Wondering how expensive the lightest front end TAP off even a kerb would be on the top grey supra pic.

Assume pic isn't perfect as I can't even see how you would open the bonnet. Some sort of clam system where the whole front end lifts?

Well, I'll stick my neck out and say they both look deeply ugly. The BMW is fractionally better than the Toyota but they are both spectacularly unappealing. They really do look like the sort of thing a 12 year old would doodle in the back of their maths exercise book.

I genuinely cannot see the desire to make cars look 'aggressive'. Call me an old lefty if you wish (although you'd be wrong) but I can't see any need for there to be more aggression than strictly necessary on the roads. Make something stylish, make something handsome, make something appealing to look at, but why make something look actively aggressive? Or are we back to simply making the biggest, fanciest, codpiece possible?

They're certain to be toned down when they get past the prototype stage, they always do.

What on earth are you banging on about. Every single sports car worth driving would have at one point been described as having "aggressive styling".

In another decade it would have been described as "sporty", having sharp defined lines and features makes something look "sporty", except today it's been replaced with the term "aggressive".

It has nothing to do with being actually agressive, there is no aggression on the road when you drive an aggressively styled car. There is no intimidation or violence. It's just the word used to describe the styling choices.

Aston Martin, Porsche, Lambourghini, Ferrari, all aggressively styled cars.

That Supra looks absolutely stunning in red.

As said above - get the 35is straight 6 engine out of the E89 Z4 and that would be a stonking car.
