UKIP - The Future - Volume 4
Discussion
The problem I have is that nobody with any objectivity is going to disagree that the leaflet is badly written and poorly focused. The execution has not been thought through in the slightest.
Yet looking at the two towns nearest to me I see an absolute shed load of money spent on cycle lanes where some are, at best, not that useful and not particularly well thought through to, at worst, make things positively more risky. Obviously there are some which to my eyes are an improvement, yet the cyclists don't use them.
It does seem to be a case of spending just to meet artificial targets at times.

do you want UKIP to be paying media savvy agencies to be writing this stuff, or people that are saying what they actually mean (all be it in less than polished language)?
once you understand how councils get and spend money, you then understand how this stuff happens.
central government offer councils £XM for cycleways, council officers then sit down and work out what they need to do to qualify to get this money, Central government will have said something like so much £ per mile of cycleway, so said council officers work out that by painting lines on existing roads, they somehow qualify to £Xm in government money to top up the councils coffers, ergo, out with the tins of paint.
this has zero to do with promoting cycling and everything to do with the money-go-round that's central government grants.
pretty much all councils are at this all the time, it's how the system works, government set a target, council's work out what they have to do to get the money with the minimum spend/work.
Our local UKIP candidate in Mole Valley (near Box Hill where we see the now yearly Ride London Prudential sportive, the Olympic cycle races etc) stated that he will be campaigning to have less of these events due to the inconvenience it brings to motorists and locals.
I agree with most UKIP policies, but definitely not this one. I really don’t think this was a good move, there are so many keen cyclists around here in Surrey.

Nice part of the world Box Hill. That is poor UKIP thinking unless there is a huge surfeit of "Nimbys" in that part of the world who would be in favour. Wouldn't surprise me if that is the case. Cannot have plebby cyclists who are unable to afford a car contaminating the place. Exterminate... I agree with most UKIP policies, but definitely not this one. just watched this:

nice to see there are others in UKIP that can hold their own.

Yep, I do wonder how Farage will feel if they come a close second in constituencies they didn't put resources into, that list is pretty much what I had been basing my longstanding 6-10 prediction on. So I think they have been realistic in their expectations finally.I wouldn't have called it a crisis mind but then I am not a Journo
following on from this...
all the pols are all over the place, to the point they are almost worthless.
everybody I speak to, I would suggest 80% are saying they are voting UKIP, (the rest are mostly tory).
on TV, they stop random people, the majority say UKIP
I guess we will know come the 7th, but I honestly think the 14% and <10 seats is wildly underestimating their support.
DM comments section has been almost 100% UKIP for a while now, even the telegraph's is showing significant support.

I'm finding the same. I'm not sure if it is a result of my own cognitive bias, or if it is the way that the polling organisations process their data.all the pols are all over the place, to the point they are almost worthless.

If UKIP do get close to 20%, then the polling companies will have to re-evaluate their methods.

Mainstream polling is designed to shape public opinion - not represent it. They know exactly what they're doing. If UKIP do get close to 20%, then the polling companies will have to re-evaluate their methods.
