BBC 2 Tonight at 9.

Blurb>
Dara O Briain and Ed Byrne undertake a 4,000-mile journey on the Pan-American Highway, emulating the 1940 road trip made by Sullivan Richardson, Arnold Whitaker and Kenneth Van Hee from Detroit.

Dara and Ed set off from Arizona and head towards the US/Mexico border. They go through the seaside resort of Mazatlan and on to Mexico City. After watching Mexico's famous lucha libre wrestlers, they visit the ancient Zapotec civilisation of Monte Alban, before heading on to Oaxaca.

Just like the original expedition, Dara and Ed stop off in Juchitßn to sample the local delicacy, iguana, and visit an iguana sanctuary, before reaching a state-of-the-art coffee farm set high in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas mountains.

This first leg of their journey takes them ten days, compared to the two months it took in the 1940s. Along the way, Dara and Ed discover how the Pan-American Highway has helped transform Mexico into one of the most powerful and dynamic countries in the Americas.

Good to see they made an effort to get an off-white Chrysler to match the original vehicle.

Seems like they are only doing half the job by stopping in Panama, but that might leave things open for a 2nd series where they actually get into South America proper.

Thought it was a bit boring myself. Didn't find it as interesting or funny as I'd hoped.

Just goes to show that JC & Andy Willman aren't the only ones who can make watchable car based travelogues. I wonder whether Danny Cohen had seen a preview when JC reported the "fracas" :tinfoil hat:

Really looking forward to this but just found it plain boring. Like them both as comedians but was very disappointed with this programme

The beeb have a good track record of folk in car drive across country type programs

They had that tt from mastercheif drive across Argentina and it worked quite well

well apart from the tt

I quite enjoyed it, but I like these sort of travelogue shows anyway.

There was a relatively recent BBC series called World's Most Dangerous Roads which was similar. Ed Byrne was in one of those as it happens, where he drove across Siberia with Andy Parsons.
