Is this the bit where I wade in and say it was the least reliable car I've ever owned, and there's an excellent reason why they depreciate like st?
We got XFs for our Police fleet. We aren't getting them anymore. Sad as they drove well, but they just spent too long off the road.Elroy Blue said:

Sad as they drove well, but they just spent too long off the road.i didn't get any sweets, and to be fair i was there that often that i'd have expected to have been invited around to the service manager's house for dinner. Not that that's why i think they arse-rubbers, that's only because they failed to fix the car when it was under warranty, and were still trying to fix it when the warranty had expired... and then tried to bill me; and were entirely unrepentant when this customer service atrocity was raised to quite a high level.
JLR? I st on thee until all eternity.

Mind you it does indeed sound like your dealers were arse-rubbers.

If it was good it wouldn't have halved in value before the warranty had even expired. Truth bomb I'm afraid. Maybe the new one will be better as it wasn't designed for a fiver on the back of a beer mat using lowest bidder parts.
Cars that look good but are st under the surface is Jaguar "heritage", it's been the case for a very long time. I seem to remember Setright saying much the same, that all the money was spent on the bits you saw in the showroom and the rest was done as cheaply as possible. My S-Type certainly seemed that way.dme123 said:

The X300 and X308 XJ's were some of the best-made cars of their time. The X-type and S-type were a bit flakey due to cost-cutting from the Ford parts-sharing, but nothing like the shocking quality of Mercedes at the millennium for example.
My lowly 2006 X-type is one of the most reliable and well made cars I've ever owned over the last 24 years, and that includes various Audis, VWs as well as 'well made' Toyotas and Subarus. My wife's last car, a run-out S-Type was similarly good. Can't speak for the diesel versions though.
It's a Jag. It will ride and handle superbly, especially on UK roads. It will look good, inside and out.
It will be a nice alternative to the usual Germans. However, it will be plagued with electrical problems, especially if you buy one of the first years production, and you will be on fist name terms with the Warranty Manager at your local Jag dealership.
Just my prediction.

I think you'll find there's many BMWs, Audis and Mercedes with plenty of issues also.
Jaguar tend to do better than the Germans on customer satisfaction surveys, which I suppose is ultimately what matters...

They do indeed to extremely well in Customer Sat surveys. Arguably, it's sales that ultimately deem the car a success.http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2014-uk-vehi...
