Help!

My father in law has a very nice freelander 2011 GS. Unfortunately he has been away and the battery is dead and the doors are locked. He simply can't figure out how to get to the key which is hidden in the fob apparently.

Any help would be much appreciated. A picture would be even more helpful so I can try and explain to him what he needs to do.
