Saab 9-3 2006 Bonnet Release Cable

Hi All,
Just looking for a bit of advice. The bonnet release cable has seized.
The front section seems fine, so it's the bit between the release handle and the engine bay. I've tracked down where they join. If I disconnect at this point, is it just a case of freeing the clip at the handle and then pulling it through the firewall(with a bit of string tied on to make refitting easier)?
I just want to whip it out and see if I can free it up/bodge. It's only £35 for a new part, but cable isn't broken, just stretched/seized so reckon I can adjust!
Hoping someone may have done this previously?
