I'm a frequent flyer (average 100 flights a year for the past 8 years) but was talking with someone about corporate jets and the subject of luggage came up. As I've never been on a corporate/private jet I did not know if the restrictions were more airport restrictions or aircraft/carrier restrictions?

On commercial airlines the hand baggage rules are in place as are the carrying of liquids restricted to 100ml.
If you are flying on a corporate jet going through a commercial airport (say Dallas), are you still bound by all of the regulations and do liquids above 100ml have to go in the hold? Are hand baggage restrictions non-existent?

Thanks

Most people flying on non-scheduled airline flights don't go through the main terminal, they'll go through a handling agent terminal or through a separate General Aviation terminal which (from what I've seen as crew) doesn't have TSA and you can basically just walk straight through and interact with airport officials in a much more relaxed manner. Private jets can do whatever they want because it's private so all the security restrictions on normal air travel don't apply.

Thankyou, I had assumed that this was the case, but I don't really understand how airports work outside of my "spend as little time as possible" mantra

If you're doing it properly you'll fly to and from airports which are convenient for you, not what is most profitable for an airline. In such a case most of the staff and procedures you encounter with schedule flights just may not even be there.

I regularly commuted by private jet for a year or so (2-6 x month) and it was very relaxed, but since it was in/out in a day I didn't have any luggage issues. It was probably the most 'common' private jet ever given who the employer was.

At one stage we checked the cost and it was cheaper than using the train or car + hotel I think.

Still limited to 100ml in hand luggage on private jets where security screening is required - the rules are no more pragmatic. Any aircraft with a Max Take Off Weight of over 12,000kg are subject to security screening on "public transport" flights - but the rub is that on most jets (the only three that spring to mind are the Citation Sovereign, Citation X and Lear 60 as exceptions to the rule) you can get at the baggage hold in flight through the toilet. So in real terms, it's utterly pointless.

Whenever I have been lucky enough to fly privately, there has been no restriction.

The biggest problem with flying private is you never get "stuck" abroad waiting for a flight several days later.

Times I flew private, we didn't even use our passports and there were no customs either. An we brought back a few crates of wine too - well over what we would have been allowed.

We went through a business aviation section of the airport, not the main "commoners" terminal!

Quite a few corporate jet operators use luggage provided by the aircraft manufacturer that's been especially designed to fit into the holds. Well, the one I worked for did!!
