Just a totally random topic of discussion. Perhaps some other people can relate.
You're driving along an 'A' road. The limit is 60mph. You're moderately held up by someone in front doing around 45mph. You're not in any particular hurry so you just go with it.
You come up to a small village, the limit is now 30mph. 45mph in front, still does 45mph through the village.
I've seen this on more than a couple of occasions. What gives? Who is Mr. 45mph everywhere?

He's been around since the early 80's, used to annoy the hell out of me doing my cross country route on Friday evenings.

Is there a national 45mph club?
What's so great about 45mph is it's either illegal or an inconvenience no matter where you are.
Even a 50 limit. Come on if the limit is 50 and you're doing 45. Why?

It was some kind of completely unastounding, generic, thing with wheels.
So yes probably was one.

There's an awful lot of these people about. It's more commonly 40mph in my experience, and on country roads they continue at this speed through all the sall 30mph villages.

They are a complete pain, and they cause accidents by making people behind them get so frustrated that they make risky manoeuvres to get past them.

Of course, if you do overtake them, even entirely safely, they then flash at you aggressively.

I'd love to get to speak to one of these people, in order to ask them, in a very friendly and civil manner, exactly what they think they are playing at. Perhaps they aren't aware of speed limits, or something.

this ,what amazes me is the fact they have decided they do not have the ability to maintain 60 mph in a nsl, but as soon as they enter a 30 mph limit they suddenly develop the skills of an f1 driver, able to react to hazards in a built up area at 15 mph over the limit everyone else has to drive.

I'm pretty sure 36 is the fastest a Prius can go, having followed several going no faster than that.

Judging by one old bloke on the SAC I went on, they drive at the slowest speed they can in top gear.

And they're related to those who drive in the middle lane on the motorway as it cuts down on the need to change lanes.

And they've been doing it for years so it must be a, acceptable and b, safe.

hes worse when you're on a bike

You overtake him in the national, he catches up at sits on your rear wheel in the village then tries to overtake you as you come to the start of the next nsl section!

technically you have to let him safely complete his manoeuvre before you can touch the throttle and overtake him back!

Monospeeders.

42mph round my way.

Dilemma:
You're frustratedly following a monospeeder down a nice fun twisty country road. You're approaching the next (30mph) village. You know the only (short) overtaking straight for the next few miles is going past the NSL sign leaving the village. Do you speed through the village to keep up with the monospeeder so you can get past on the straight, or stick to 30 knowing full well they'll be nearly at the end of the straight by the time you get there and you'll be stuck again?

Actually, the slowest drivers belong to a secret organistaion that eventually gets them all to move to the IOW !! 20mph is the defacto velocity everywhere, and some have the added atribute of not having any idea where they are supposed to be going to !!
