Dear Pistonheads,

Recently I sold my 996 Carrera and purchased an Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
First of all, I've never been as excited about ownership as I am now. The Vantage truely is a blast to drive and a stunner to the eye!

As expected, the vehicle has a load of.... how should we call it... "character" biggrin . There is a small list of quirks that I'm not sure were intended.

-The tail button to open the trunk doesn't work (does work with inside button) --> FIXED, took module apart and cleaned contacts.
-The pressure on the door struts is too low to keep them in place
-Tyre pressure system lights up like a christmas tree (pressure is good) --> NOT BROKEN, apperantly it just had some "off-days" biggrinbiggrin
-Brake squeels
-Center console squeeks
-Drivers seat slides back and forth for about 0.5cm
-The right part of the right taillight does not work properly. When I light the car up with the remote button the whole taillight goes on, but the right part seems less bright. After a couple of seconds it turns off. Not the whole light, just the right part of it.

I bought second hand and I intend to adress most issues myself (and let some be, "character"right?).

The first thing I want to adress is the partial failure of the taillight, since that's about safety and looks.
Apperantly the units are sealed and I probably have to replace it.

Do DB9 tail lights fit a Vantage perfectly?

I will keep updating this thread for the sake of progression, but obviously you guys want something for the eye first!

Yes. They are the same units. Many of us have upgraded from the red units to the more modern clear units.

Thank you for your swift response!

I wanted to know because indeed, many people seem to have switched them out to clears.
Personally I like the red better on my car, so I might hunt a red one down from someone who went to clears.

Welcome. Your car looks beautiful.
The excitement of ownership does not go away, but it is unfortunate that you have a list of faults to deal with.

I am sure that you know already, but just in case, I think both the boot button and the boot release on the remote, need to be pressed twice before the tailgate opens.

Enjoy.

Thank you!

When I press the remote to open the tailgate, the light indeed flash but the trunk does not open also not with multiple presses. The button at the middle console opens it flawlessly.

Looks like you're fooked here Tony, bet you don't know how to say "Tossers" in Dutch.laugh
By way of explanation to the OP ,Tony is a respected contributor to this forum but he's getting on a bit and suffers from a mild form of Tourette's Syndrome and is prone to utter profanities.
Aside from that congrats on your new Aston and welcome to the forum.

Yes, the key unlocks the tailgate but I can't open it with the button on the back when I unlocked it.

Thanks for the kind and helpful words!

WD40 on top of the button from the outside?

Also good to notify: The button still worked 2 weeks ago.

I know - we go to all that trouble to make him feel welkom and he speaks better English than we do! smile

I'd try outside first - depends whether the issue is a dry contact/faulty connection or something properly bust.

I appreciate your efforts to make me feel welcome and the dutch was very clear to me smile! For the sake of Aston owners who might encounter similar problems however, I think it's best to continue in English.

As soon as I read your comments I applied some WD40 to my tailgate button. I pushed it inwards and sprayed some more, tried fiddling with it for a bit...
No luck so far! I'll probably have to take the carpet out and adjust the switch if possible.

Lovely choice, car looks great. I'm seven months in with my own Vantage and it still hasn't stopped being a joy to say "I think I'll just go take the Aston out the garage and take a drive"! Possibly the most positively received car by strangers I've ever owned, and it never gets tiring talking to people about it when out and about, folks just seem to genuinely love the cars.

Great looking car! I had some squeaks and rattles, which I sorted out and documented here - it may help. If it's leather-on-leather squeaks, rather than rattles - talcum powder seems to work on the joints.
