Seems legit......
Does it bks, pay the same as vans and cars. Well I guess those that have to go there will have a newer bike. Better get my arse to my old dutch pancake house in Holborn soon!

This one has dismayed me.. quite how you can charge a bike the same price as a car irrespective. But in real terms its going to reduce/exclude quite a number of people even if it is 5 years from now from being able to use powered two wheels to beat the traffic into central london.
In real terms of overall vehicle %s just considering all bikes used in town isn't or can't be that large. And I really can't see the actual saving to the environment/benefit to air quality excluding anything older than July 2007 from being ridden in central given that % of overall vehicle numbers.
This one directly will affect me in 5 years in that my current bike is one year too old and althought I'm in the process of replacing it sadly its replacement is unlikely to be anything meeting the new requirements as I'm going for a cheap and cheerful commuter (still large cc) given how I use a bike currently.
I guess it just means I'll be forced to change my bike before next 5 years is up or leave london or hope the next mayor gets rid of it

It's ental - the biggest polluters in London are the buses and archaic taxis!
It's mental that you go off half cocked at the bike media's equivalent of the Daily Express."TfL Buses
As part of the ULEZ, we are taking extra steps to reduce emissions from our buses and to increase the number of zero emission capable vehicles.
By 2020, all double deck TfL buses operating in central London will be hybrid and all single deck buses will be zero emission (at point of use). This means a substantial number of double deck buses operating in inner London will be hybrid, as will many in outer London
We will progressively increase the number of these buses. From 2020 only buses of this type will be allowed to operate on routes in the ULEZ
Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles (eg minicabs)
Following the consultation feedback, and in light of new funds announced by the Government, we will undertake further engagement with the taxi and private hire trade before finalising plans to change the licensing requirements for these vehicles. The final package of measures is expected to be confirmed in the summer.
In the meantime, the Mayor has confirmed Private Hire Vehicles will need to meet the ULEZ standards."
From here
Visordown is almost as bad as MCN for sensationalising this kind of thing.

Nicely worded. So since central london is actually a small area, (28 km2 for 'Central' london, or 319km2 for 'Inner' london [notice they interchange the terms; very scientific] as opposed to 1,572 km2 for Greater London! lol) the rest of us are going to have to keep breathing the tonnes of smelly dirty st I see being chucked out of buses on my way to work every day for many many years to come.great
