...the one in my V8S is making a horrible whining noise. I did finally manage to get the (stripped) filler plug out, and replaced the sludge with fresh, but it hasn't made much difference. Is this rebuild or replace time? If there is a better alternative? I'm generally keen to upgrade where possible. Escort Cosworth is where it came from I think.

Cheers.

If you don't see any damage and if you lost either side keeper, it's possible your backlash needs to be readjusted.

Escort cos would be a 7" unit with 3.64 ratio of yours is an lsd in 7.5" with the 100mm flanges it is likely from a granada cosworth.

You can get rebuild kits or take it for inspection and rebuild somewhere should only take a couple of days.. They will replace seals, bearings and check cogs are ok etc then rebuild setting backlash etc..

With the v8 torque you may want a 3.34 ratio diff which iiirc was standard on v8.

3.34 are rare but available new if you have deep pockets I need a 3.15 or 2.98 for mine and am still looking. I may end up putting a bmw1 series diff in but that's like £1k + I would estimate.

I would have your unit rebuilt as I have been stung with so called good ebay items a couple of times now.

I am currently running a 7.5" 3.64 with quaiffe ATB unit. Gonna swap to a 3.34 crownwheel and pinion to get me through this year if I can't find anything lower in next couple of weeks.

Thanks Damian S3
