Hi all

I am toying with the idea of putting a bucket seat in as I'm hoping to do more track days and find the standard seat unsupportive (as it's a bit saggy) or rather uncomfortable with fresh foam.

A friend has buckets in his Chimaera which I find quite comfortable so was wondering what would fit? I know tvr's can be a bit narrow of cockpit so are there many that would actually go in?

Any tips or experiences shared are welcome.

If you're Lewis's friend, have you seen the ones that Lewis has in his Chimaera? They are Cobra seats.
I saw his on Thursday, and have just bought something very similar to fit to my track day Chimaera.
Ebay is your friend. Try searching on "kit car seats"

The biggest issue is the size of any other seats - most main stream sports car seats are either too wide, too tall in the sitting area, too wide at shoulder height, or whatever - and most frankly don't have good side support, so if you win the battle to fit them, you wonder why you bothered. I have been looking at Subaru Impreza seats - there's one that might just fit with some runner adjustment, and be worth the work
The next biggest issue, other than simply size, is runners - they tend on most seats to be right against the edges of the seats, which is not where you need them on a TVR.
But do remember that you can buy runners on Ebay for less than £20 - get the ones where the two sides are not linked, so that you can set your own separation.
Then a crafty bit of angle iron engineering, joining up the fixings on the bottom of the seat with where you want the runners, and you are away.

Finally, the compromise you need is a bucket seat that is good for track days, but still comfortable and not too fiddly for everyday use. I have a pair of race seats that fit the car, but they are a pig to get into and out of with the roof on, and they are not the height of comfort. I tried them but took them out, as they also don't really suit anyone bigger than a 34 inch waist, which is not quite me these days. You are welcome to try them if it would help.

This is the sort of thing I am on about:

Thanks for the replies.

I do indeed know Lewis with his Cobra seats - I just wasn't sure if there were other options. I actually find his seats quite comfortable even over long distance so maybe something like that would be best.

At the moment, if I corner too hard, I slide out of the seat!

Happily my waist is 32" (for now at least), so a narrow design of seat should hopefully not be too much of an issue.

We followed a Wesfield with these on the Cobweb Run last weekend - then spoke to the owner and his girlfreind both said they are very comfortable.

I have a spare set of Elise seats that were heading to the Gredge before it was pranged.

I think I have a set of Lotus bases for them to (they're the expensive bit). Just need a set of ali plates to give a flat plane to fix too.

They don't owe me much and would certainly be cheaper than new. They are either tan or cream. Certainly lighter than Samy's interior which I think is doe.

Found some pics - does look like I have a set of Lotus bases as one is poking out the side in the background.

Bit of damage on the bolster but repairable. I'm looking at making a form of 'sock' to protect this area on the set in Samy and also a strap to hold the seat belt in place to stop it pinging off behind the seat.

Have you done the 'seatbelt' mod?

Bidding appears to have gone a bit mental though. Can't remember how much the last group buy was.

I fitted rose joints / trackrod ends and they do the same thing. The only issue is that they roll around rather than being in a fixed position. This has it's advantages and disadvatanges.

I have done the seatbelt mod - I bought my car just in time for the last group buy luckily.

I've just got a price for the Intatrim seat that some of the Chimaera guys have fitted £228 for one, delivered. So I'm contemplating doing that. Possibly...!

I would not be looking for that amount of money for the [pair of] seats. Only issue would be getting them to you.

Hmmm I wonder if they would fit the very late model, straight 6 S (Tamora). Might 'borrow' them from you for a trial fit if that's okay?

I've been looking at this for Tamy too. The seat belt has a different shaped 'hoop' to that on the S and the roof folds down over it. Let me know the result of your testing as I'd like to improve Tamy's belts too.
