Not sure if this has been posted here but sadly the Stondon Motor Museum (south Beds) is closing it's doors next week. 400 vehicles to be auctioned with no reserve.

I was just about to post about this. Hopefully I'll have time in the week to make the journey north. By the way, I think it's more like 150 cars and 60 motorcycles - 400 things including automobilia, maybe.

I live very close to Stondon and visited quite recently. I have to say although it's a shame to see another museum closing, this almost comes as good news. There are some absolutely fantastic exhibits there but sadly most are sitting on flat tyres, haven't been run in years or rotting away. The collection of buildings were old, leaking and in desperate need of total refurbishment or better still replaced altogether. It needed an awful lot of money, effort and time putting into it and it seemed clear that wasn't going to happen. Hopefully the vast majority of exhibits will go to good homes, there's a few bits I wouldn't mind buying from there myself.

I quite fancy the AEC Regent, no idea where I'd park it or what I'd actually use if for for that matter. There does seem to be a disproportionately large number of cars with auto boxes which would put me off.

I would love to know the history of that place, was it one guy who liked cars or ? seems an eclectic collection - love the Interceptor and Lagonda.

It sounds a bit of a billy bullstter 'my mate's uncle's stepdad's' story but the guy I used to work with in my apprenticeship was for some time with the museum owner's daughter. I believe the owner made his money years ago selling small aluminium greenhouses and various other dealings. From what I've heard he was always into cars and then it all expanded from there. He died last year I believe, my mum is a carer and cared for him when he came into the hospice for end of life care. Small world!

Just about the only thing I'd be interested in that lot, there's no Cortina's, Escorts etc would be the 58 Fairlane. Pity I'm on holiday when the auction is on.

Not sure how Mr Saunders started in business but you'll see Saunders recovery trucks on standby at just about every motorway works in the south. The late Mr Saunders' pride was a huge collection of steam tractors and trucks - his family continue to display these at shows and fairs for all to enjoy.
