cherished transfer/retention help please
Discussion
Hello
i've got a plate on my car that i wish to put on retention (i'm selling the car, don't want to lose the plate)
i've filled in the V317 form and an about to send it off with my £80 and my existing v5c
current car is 4 years old, and is taxed until end of April and MOT until Sept
what happens when the DVLA send me back a new V5c with a different reg on it? do i get a new MOT cert and new tax until end of April?
or do i have to get the car through a new MOT and tax it again?
because if i do, then there is the problem of having to drive to halfords to get new plates made up, whilst potentially not being legal for tax/mot/insurance etc.
would kind of like to avoid that if poss......
any help gratefully received.....

You will get a replacement MOT with the new VRM on it. As for tax I haven't needed to do a retention since the paper VED disc was abolished. I'm guessing you'll need to use this to check - https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
The only reason you wouldn't be legal for insurance is if you didn't have a policy in force. The only thing you have to remember is to let the insurer know what the new VRM is.

You could always wait until tomorrow and do it online....
