Or just a bad tyre strategy and unlucky with the safety car call? That Fezza win came out of nowhere, smells a bit fishy to me two weeks after a Merc Whitewash in Oz.

I have to admit though I did wonder if they run a little lower (not due to being told to) so that there was more of a fight to try and diffuse the "equalisation" bull***t.

So did I!

Terrible the conspiracy theories our own minds can come up with ! But Merc did seem to have lost that second and a half they always had in hand.

Strange, better get the tinfoil out again smile

It didn't come out of nowhere. Not if you followed what the respective teams were doing throughout the preceding 2 days.

Ferrari were competitive today because they made a massive step forward over the winter, which was obvious from the first day of the Jerez test. The very hot conditions suited their package, and they also had a superb strategy, which Vettel executed perfectly.

Mercedes didn't win because they completely screwed up their strategy and their car was harder on its tyres in the conditions. Lewis's pace was limited by the need to manage his tyres, not his power unit.

Oh come on.. What a load of BS.

...... Back in the real world. Ferrari were not far off the pace in Australia, looked positive in pre season testing and looked strong all weekend.

There's an element of the early pit stop and mercs not passing traffic afterwards which helped vettel, but pace was there from Ferrari to battle.

Hamilton was 34 seconds ahead of Vettel in Oz, and probably could have been more if pushed harder. In Oz Hamilton was 1.4 seconds quicker in qualifying than Vettel, on a shorter lap than Malaysia.
So, did Ferrari find all of this time on the trip from Oz to Malaysia, at the airport perhaps? Or in Bernie's private jet?
At the start of the race, first few laps before the safety car, on the same tyres, Rosberg could not get anywhere near Vettel?

Bernie st himself after the first race that it was going to be a Merc whitewash season. Germany dropped from the calendar, audiences plummeting. What do you do.........

Merc go the strategy wrong. We have seen maldonado get a win just with the right strategy and tyre management. It was a knock on effect of poorly placing the mercs in traffic early on. Seb was able to scamper away and gain 10 seconds as well as track position. Seb drove well and a few bits and bobs fell into place to help.

No conspiracy theory at all.

What about the lap times before the safety car? Check out Vettel and Rosberg times. Identical tyres, fuel, conditions etc, Vettel faster.

Makes perfect sense - the Mercs were faster (in clean air) in sector 2, but with Nico having to follow Vettel NR a) lost out on the two long straights where the Ferraris were superior and b) could not use their only advantage in sector 2. No wonder NR lost out. Lewis could not gap Vettel either during the same period.

Don't forget the rest of the pack were still miles behind the Mercs. The Ferrari powered Saubers have appeared from nowhere this year.

Nothing sinister here. Ferrari found a sweet spot today with the high temps and being light on tyres.

If the next race is cold I expect Ferrari to be less competitive.

Ferrari may the Williams issue from last year this season in the car being kind on its tyres, in warm weather it works well but the negative will be in cooler/wet conditions it can't work them hard enough and struggle for pace.

They just got things right today and are the first team to best Mercedes on performance rather than mechanical failure.
