Looks like Howard's old wedge, for sale by we buy any car . com at british car auction http://auctionview1.british-car-auctions.co.uk/Lot...

Car was sold last year from memory circa 10k ish, old advert = http://www.blackandwhitecarsbmth.com/black-and-whi...

If a dealer gets this it will be up for alot more than the hammer price me thinks

That car and number plate look familiar, I'm sure I was the 2nd highest bidder when it was at Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions a few years ago, I was really there to bid for a Brough Superior speedometer but should of had the courage of my convictions and bid higher as it was a lovely car and went for a very good price, well below 10k.

Remember this being up for sale a couple of years back, at the time it was possibly highest price for 400se, now at the same price it would seem a bargain.

Also another early 350 in PH classified, looks nice and original.

The two websites almost show a different car, the dash has now delaminated and the description of the paintwork is far from complementary. The second website says its concours, but the second implies it needs a respray

I have heard the appraisals can be a bit harsh but even so does not make good reading. It was perfect when I saw it at DVCA

In the auction it lists the car as a 350i. That tells you how accurate the car report is!!!
How much is it in for anyway?

Sounds like they haven't got a clue when it comes to 25+ year old TVR's..Could have said needs a bit of TLC..Paint is showing its age a little..The scuffed mohair is probably on the targa panel and is a result of having no protective bag or cover...Mine has ripples here and there and HAS NOT been repaired, Quite a few Wedges have rippling on the A posts and across the top windscreen pillar, Mine also has a small amount on the wing..Surprised they didn't pick on the stress cracks as well...You can try all you like but you will never get rid of them...
I can see a bit of mould on the glove box leather..The veneer looks original so thats something that is either in good nick or not...

Having made a few enquiries and blowing up the current pictures my opinion is that when sold she was left outside by the new owner and I suspect covered leading to quite severe micro blistering, which I assume will only be cured by a full respray.

Also, unfortunately the previous comprehensive paperwork for the car is missing, such a shame.

Nick

I remember this car - it was bought by an `elderly` gentleman in the Dorset region TVRCC. Last time I saw it (must be at least 3 years ago) it was in very good condition, but at the time I didn't think it was going to be used much and it never turned up again.

IIRC it sold at DVCA auction for a `world record` wedge auction price of about £8k, and B&W cars then had it advertised at about £13k.

Or you could say what your comment tells you about... Most larger engined wedges were registered that way; a type approval thing.

Never the less I would expect an experienced auctioneer to know the difference between a 350i and a 400SE as they look completely different.

Just watched this go through at Blackbushe, it made £6600 (plus the buyers premium), but was provisional. I'm not hanging around to see if the winning bid was accepted by the vendor.

The car itself was in great condition apart from blistering all over the paintwork. It needs a respray as mentioned above.

If £6600+ premium is accepted, that's well cheap. A real bargain for someone. I could get that resprayed for 1k and it'd be mint.

According to BCA online, the £6600 bid was very provisional - I think we'll be seeing the car going through again.

Well according to BCA this morning it sold.

Must say a thanks to Glen for starting this thread without him I would not have known the car was for sale again, and a really big thanks to Howard who went out of his way for me. I had a very interesting discussion with him about the car that made me decide to put in a commission bid in an attempt to buy it.

Unfortunately, I was a bit short of the final bid for the second time, guess this car really doesn't want me frown if I wasn't lucky enough to have a Griff sat on the drive I could have gone a bit higher, but I had to be sensible for once ce la vie.

Regards

Nick
