Draft messing with Thermostat?
Discussion
Noticed our heating was clicking on and off in an unexpected pattern, house getting very hot etc
Looking at the thermostat I could feel a very notable draft coming OUT of the vents in plastic cover. Removed cover to find big hole where power is being fed in... see top left of pic
Now that can't be right can it? The cool air inflow is bound to be screwing with the stat yes?
So what should I seal it with and should I be surprised to find such airflow in an internal wall albeit an old house and very windy right now.
Thanks chaps

Thanks. All patched up.
Would a digital thermostat actually be advantageous or is it just an improved UI?
An electronic one will give you finer regulation with less hysteresis than the clunky old bimetallic type you currently have. Improved UI is a given. A basic electronic thermostat is not expensive and pretty much plug and play.Would a digital thermostat actually be advantageous or is it just an improved UI?
I have exactly the same problem. Digital thermostat is positioned on a plasterboard wall, with a small cavity behind to part of an old brick wall (recent extension). Was showing 3 to 5 deg lower than actual, but only at times. Take it off the wall and its showing actual temp all the time. I need to resolve, bit of roof insulation or expanding foam.

Get a Nest or similar, you can then put it wherever you want.
Fitted mine last week - and am already a huge fan. Yes, it's a slightly pointless gadget. But it looks amazing, works perfectly and is just a very cool thing.
Also I know I owe you some pics of rads - will get that done!

Last time I had a look at the Nest i wasn't sure how it integrated with existing timer and hot water. Might take another look though.
