I bought my new bike last year and ive done about 600 miles on it so far its a Focus Izalco TEAM sl4.0 and it came with a Fizik seat

however the last 600miles ive done havent been the comfyest on the sit bone

my last bike was a Giant SCR 3 which had a decent standard seat and it had some comfort

I want to have somthing that still looks ok on the bike and has some comfort

I am baffled by these threads. Its your bottom and your body. We can't go and sit on the saddles for you!!

Go on the tinternet and find your nearest shop that offers saddle fits. Most decent shops will do it and you can try the saddle for 30 days and exchange if it doesn't work with another shop.

If your old saddle works, take that in the shop and say 'I like this, so maybe something similar'.

The other option is sitting on new bikes and seeing if you like any of those. Then you can just go and buy from Wiggle/CRC.

I went down the saddle fit route and I've just sold it on EBay. It just wasn't working. I'm now trying a Charge Spoon, which is very popular and cheap. Might be worth a go smile

^it was a fair point though. Also angle and fit of the bike of course, not just the type of saddle.

Anyway, what Fizik is fitted?

Many (myself and just about everyone I ride with) use and love Aliantes, their mid flex offering for fairly flexible riders with arses the right size to fit them.

Some narrower racier types rate the Antares or Ariones. I suspect that's what came fitted and it's not right for you.

I have a Fizik Arione, its great
I dont get on with Selle Italia

Like shoes, saddle fit is very personal

Similar to the recent shoe thread I expect this one will develop with several differently shaped individuals telling the OP what works for them which may not necessarily work for him/her

Cheers

My (current) Boardman has a Fizik Ardea - i hate it. Numb bum after 30 miles. Im sure my old Boardman had an Arione which was comfier.

Arione for me, I'm not a 'snake' as per Fizik's recommendation but with narrow sit bones it just works. I've tried a few different types and I'm now a convert to these where Antares are just a bit too wide for my arse.

I bought a new bike which had an Arione fitted and was fully expecting to have to change it after the first few rides but it prove to be comfier than the Antares on my other bike. Not the cheapest way to find a comfy saddle but then buying 4 or 5 different saddles till you find the right one isn't cheap either.

One thing that might be worth trying is different cycling shorts. I've got a NorthWest pair with fairly substantial padding which are massively uncomfortable, but a trisuit, with a thin chamois that is great.

My new bike came with a Fizik Arione and it's bloody horrible for me. I'l probably end up taking the Specialized one from my old bike and using that.

Yeah but one man's fish and chips is another man's cowpat. I could tell you that my Selle Italia Flite Flow fits my curvaceous rump just dandy, but you may find it less comfortable than a flogging.

Find a dealer with a bumometer and get measured.

ETA - when you have been measured, look on eBay - there seems to be a glut of lightly used saddles at fairly low prices. Much cheaper than buying brand new.

Yup! finding saddles that work well is hard work and sometimes very expensive!

Get a Brooks, it will mould to your shape. Anything else you have to mould to it biggrin

Most people will disagree with me, but it's my arse and it's comfy so fk 'em biggrin

Is it time for some new shorts? Fizik saddles I have always found need a little breaking in, I run a Tundra on all my bikes, mtb, cross and road, find them comfortable.

In all fairness, pretty much all of the TCR riders use Brooks saddles, and if it's good enough for them...

They're just built for comfort rather than speed, I'd say.

I love Sella Italia SLR's but everyone is different as shown by the person above who hates them.

You need to go and try some.

Another vote for Selle Italia SLR's, flat, narrow and minimal padding - but I have narrow sit bones and don't like a padded saddle!

See if you can find an LBS capable of measuring your sit bone width and do a saddle pressure mapping, that will give you an idea of the shape you need. Once you know what shape saddle you need see if you can find an LBS who are able to provide loan saddles and try a few out - Fizik and Selle Italia provide larger bike shops with a range of test saddles in bright yellow!

I had a Spesh Bike Fit last year and mentioned saddle comfort. I got to try a Fizik Arione for a week, bloody agony for me. I persevered with it for that week and 200 miles or so of mixed rides because the shop expert recommended it so I thought I'd get used it. Then I tried an Alliante (I think) which was way better. I then remembered I had a Charge Spoon I'd bought and not tried, which I still ride now.
Saddles are very very personal but I hope we've given you some ideas.

I use a Charge Spoon on my mountain bike, a Charge Knife on my Boardman road bike, and my 13 Bikes Intuition came with a Fizik Aliante. Luckily I find that really comfortable too.

The Spoon is £20, the Fizik is £80 if bought separately. Give the Charge a try if you can't find someone to measure your sit bones. If it's not for you, you'll get most of your money back on eBay.
