Bear with me on this!

I've recently taken a liking to the Breitling Superocean Heritage 42. After playing around with the configurator in the jewellers, i've been left a little undecided as to which combination to go for.

The green bezel appeals to me, so that's a dead cert, however i'm not sure whether to go for the green bezel/white dial/steel strap combo, or the same but with the green croco strap.

What's the general thought from you guys? My main concern is that perhaps the croco strap won't age as well as the steel strap?

Thanks in advance.

Buy on the bracelet and add the croc strap later (or get the dealer/boutique to do you a package deal). If you do it the other way around, you're entering a world of pain.

Yeti, any reason why this would be a world of pain? I'm new to the brand so not sure if there's a reputation i've missed?

Normally, the bracelet variant of a watch costs marginally more than the same model on a strap/rubber. However buying an OEM strap/rubber is less than an OEM bracelet.

I remember a long time ago the difference between an Omega Planet Ocean on a rubber strap and a SS bracelet was c.£100 ... However the rubber by itself was c.£120 and the SS bracelet was nigh-on c.£600! So it was advised that PO owners buy the bracelet variant, then opt for the rubber, rather than the other way around.

I know prices have changed since around 5 years ago - I reckon OEM PO straps are eye-wateringly expensive now!

I recently purchased a Breitling Transocean day/date and with the metal mesh strap was less than the croco strap with folding clasp. I did a deal with the AD and got both straps, If you get a croco strap go for one with the folding clasp as it will last a lot longer than the tang type.

I bought a Superocean Heritage, the larger size, a couple of years ago. Went for blue bezel/white face/mesh strap.

The strap is a quality item, I have an aftermarket one on a Tissot and the Breitling item is better quality.

It's a nice watch, I deliberately avoided Tag and Omega as close friends have them and I wanted to be different.

Good choice OP - have this one myself, albeit with the black bezel and mesh strap.

As others have said, get the mesh strap and add the croc strap afterwards - will save yourself £00s.

I have the superocean Heritage 46 Blue on Blue with Mesh bracelet. Its one of my favourites out of the 13 I own.

I'm sure you will be happy whatever you buy.

The mesh bracelet is to die for.

I've only tried one on, but the black rubber strap was pretty good I thought.
