I'm looking for some advice on a 2005 Mondeo st tdci I've been offered. Recently my friend has just bought a new car to replace his old Mondeo and has offered it to me for a yet to be discussed deal of the century!

I'll start with the good bit's as there arent many!
Body is straight, with only one minor dent and good paint (blue)
Good 18 inch alloys (standard) With good tyres.
Clean Interior.
Recent clutch.

Now for the bad bits!

No mot.
has around 240,000 miles on the clock.
The shocks are knackered, it literally bounces down the road!
Various other steering and suspension related knocks and groans!

Ive worked out around £600 in parts for 4 Bilstein shocks, eibach 30mm springs, Top strut mounts, complete lower wishbone assembly (both sides), drop links and track rod ends.

I can do all the work, so I wont be factoring in labour, but assuming that nothing else is required what would you think was a fair price for it?

has it had the injectors done and the DMF replaced? if not, factor those in as they are both expensive jobs to get done. the DMF isn't too dear to buy and do yourself, but the injectors they have you by the balls tbh as they need replacing with new ones (recoding them is a short term fix and in my experience a total waste of money if you plan on keeping the car) that need to get coded to the car (computery jiggery pokery malarky) by preferably a delphi specialist as they made the fuel system.

other than that, i'd not bother with expensive shocks as the standard ones work just fine with eibach springs :-)

other than that, they are easy cars to work on, and not too dear to run in the grand scheme of things if maintained properly (they are picky about having decent oil in them).

this is coming from my own personal experience of having owned an ST TDCI for several years and an ST220 since 2012, and doing all my own maintenance/repairs whenever possible (excluding injectors on the old oil burner).

also... just remembered... the best additive to use to clean the engine out is stuff called BG244. again, from personal experience i can happily vouch for it's use.
