A charge cable for the phone, plastic bags for shopping when I remember.
In the winter I have the ice scraper and a dustpan & brush because it's the best thing for clearing snow.

Nothing else, hate having clutter in the car.

I drive round the year for work.

Breaking down in the middle of nowhere in winter and waiting 3 hours for the rac taught me a valuable lesson.

I have a bag with a cheap ebay fleece and coat, hat gloves. Various tools. Also an emergency overnight bag with toothbrush etc.

Good torch and spare batteries multi tools, bulbs, fuses, serpentine belt, electric Pump, tyre repair foam, tow rope,All sorts of crap.

  • Padded high viz jacket
  • 5L of water
  • Gaffa tape
  • WD-40
  • Rags and a microfibre cloth for wiping evaporated dashboard plastic off the inside of the windscreen (or whatever the hell it is)
  • Magnetic base yellow flashing light (handy when broken down around a bend etc)
  • Some spare bulbs for a different car
  • New handbrake cables (they've been there for 2yrs...)
  • Large umbrella (mostly used to lever the gear shift mechanism back onto its bush properly every 1k miles)
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Actual proper Alfa toolkit (basically a screwdriver and a spanner that doesn't fit anything that I've found)
  • Booster seats for SWH Jnr 1 & 2
  • Several large pebbles off the beach (really should take those out of the boot, they're using up valuable space!)
  • At MOT test time, 2-3 25kg bags of ballast in the boot (means the rear brakes may, just possibly, pass)

Colouring pencils. In every door pocket, cubby hole, nook, cranny, seat runner and floor space.

Doesn't help that the youngest two move between row 2 and row 3 according to total passenger numbers. Luckily there is also a selection of colouring books in the seat back pockets.

(There are also useful things like torch, towrope, jump leads, reflective vests in all sizes, USB charging cables etc etc)

Likewise, lost a load of tools incuding one of the huge Halfords socket sets, a 12v pressure washer and other stuff I'd been too lazy to remove as my lock-up garage was a few minutes down the road. £100 limit for "personal items" on most car insurance policies.

Always keep a big golf umbrella, hi-viz, jump leads, warning triangle, etc in the boot along with a car seat cover in case I'm filthy. Usually keep a little top-up bottle of oil, and I love the BMW screenwash tablets, keep some in the glovebox and use with the free water at the garage when needed, rather than have to buy some in a hurry.
