Hi guys,
I've got an urge to get a second generation Legacy GT wagon or GTB, but unsure really how to tell the difference between a modified GT or original GTB? What are the give-away clues, should the Bilsteins be on all GTB's (I'd have thought so due to the name), and was the leather interior an option or standard on GTB's?
Basically, looking at this advert of a 1997 GTB in the classifieds, what are the clues to look for. I only ask this as a fella on the Scoobynet mentioned that he bought a GTB and found out it was a tarted up GT.

Cheers.

You missed a trick there; you should have asked " G, TB or not TB?"

Sorry.

GTB should have Bilsteins, auto ones only had 260bhp like the regular GT though. Manual GTB (280bhp) might have a different engine code, I know with the 3rd gen the autos are EJ206 and the manuals are EJ208 but can't remember the earlier ones.

Pretty sure the leather was just an option.

GT had 15" or 16" wheels as standard while the GTB had 17", but that doesn't mean much now.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Do you know if this wheel HP, so the auto box is just draining 20BHP from the drivetrain?
I guess Bilsteins, interior, body kit etc could all have been swapped out anyway over that many years, maybe I should be looking for a chassis number registry if there is one?

That will be power at the engine, the same as other manufacturers quote. Manual and auto GT both had the 260bhp motor, its only the manual GTB (and equivalent RS sedan) that had 280. The lowered powered version had less torque as well (318 vs 338Nm). I'm not sure if there are mechanical differences in the engine or just a different ECU tune.

ETA: Just had a search, the 260bhp motor is an EJ20H and the 280bhp motor an EJ20R.

Thanks GravelBen, I'll go have a look at a couple of them when I can in that case. Not sure the difference in power will make too much difference for me on the road, but it looks good on paper. Cheers,
Sean

3rd gen (BH5) is EJ206/EJ208, 2nd gen (BG5) is EJ20H/EJ20R.

The Rev-D BH5 EJ208 is also quite different from the earlier EJ208 though, just to confuse people. hehe

And a pain in the arse when getting some parts. I'm not looking forward to replacing my rev-d turbos.
