The New Macbook
Discussion
How bad is the performance of these things likely to be? 1.3ghz seems to be the top spec, but it's a M Core? Has anyone experienced this processor before?
Do I remember Tim Cook saying they'll be on display in the Apple Stores before the launch day? Anyone know when I can go and 'try' one out in the stores?
Cheers all

I suppose it depends on how you are planning on using it. The fan-less processor may be a bit weak but it does have quick SSD and 8GB of memory so for most people it will be more than enough as their primary laptop. If you are planning on using more heavy duty applications then a MBP might be more suitable.More info here - http://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/01/retina-macbook...

presume you mean the new Air? I have heard that it's basically an iPad with a keyboard... the MBP is a 'proper' laptop.Do I remember Tim Cook saying they'll be on display in the Apple Stores before the launch day? Anyone know when I can go and 'try' one out in the stores?

i could be wrong but i think it is the next generation of the Air, but they've just dropped the name!
You are wrong. The air and pro retina had spec umps after the last event, so at least for the short term all three are in the range together.JulianHJ said:

Sure seems expensive for what it is though.
Depends on what you're comparing it to. It's expensive compared to a netbook with a poor, low-res screen and a 32/64Gb SSD. Compared to something similar like a Dell XPS 13 with their QHD Screen the difference seems to be about 10%. Better processor on the Dell, but smaller chassis on the MacBook. You also get OSX rather than windows, which is a positive or negative depending on what camp you're in.Edited by survivalist on Sunday 5th April 09:10
