Have got several more stupid great big pine trees dotted around the house. Am forever picking up pine cones & clearing the gutters out...

I put the laurels in last December - they must have grown over a foot already.
What a lovely garden.

Completing on this today, so a crash course in lawn care is needed to keep it looking this good. There is a house included as well!

Is that real? It looks computer generated. Birds custard on your lawn please when you move in.

Seriously though, congratulations smile

Nice, I am in exactly the same boat, I just completed on a house last week that has a massive lawn, we haven't moved in yet, just called around to find someone to come cut the grass for a month or two while I try and get used to the new house/commute/everything and get some money together for a nice ride-on, but they're so expensive that I might just take the plunge and get one now and get mowing!

Absolutely genuine; the picture was snipped from the agents website. Just moved the majority of our chattels in today and walked the garden before we packed up for the night. Over 1.8 acres in total but fortunately we have bought the ride on mower and two Hayter petrol mowers from the vendor. One of the Hayters is responsible for the stripes in the lawn behind the house.

It's been six weeks and a day since I spent the weekend attempting some repairs. It looks much much better now, but I think I've got a bit of a problem with crab grass and some parts are very patchy and uneven. I think it will require a bit of topsoil and seed again to sort that out.

April 10th:

Today 23rd May. Sorry different angle, and I also removed the two half dead conifers in the borders:

It's also growing really quickly now, so I think I'll have to move to cutting twice a week. I'll try get another snap soon from the original angle to show the difference. The outside of my house is a work in progress along with the inside so please excuse the 2/3rds of a bath and building materials laugh

ETA: 31st May Cut and photo from the same place as the others. I think I may have gone a bit short this time, but it's looking much better and my original moss problem seems to have gone almost entirely!

Here's a couple of pics of my front lawn - been very dry down here for the last few weeks so it could actually do with a decent deluge. However I'm still managing to get a few stripes.

I was just thinking "what a great view". I have fields at the back of me and thought that was nice but...well, very nice.

how long do grass seeds take to grow? I planted some a week ago (I dug up compacted surface first) and covered with top soil, watered every eve. So far nothing!
2-3 weeks normally. Mine had been down a week and nothing, then I was away last week and with all the rain they've come up good.
Mwhoohahaha...come to papa....

reseeded areas:

this is on super-macro so in reality they're tiny!

Probably because you've watered every night. I was lazy and waited for nature to do that bit.

Stop cutting it! Water, water, water. Top dress and overseed Two hours per day, at least. Once it has started growing, it seriously needs a feed. Don't be tempted with weed and feed or you'll kill the seedlings. Don't cut again for another two weeks and then only with the mower on its highest setting just to top it. Don't lower the mower settings that will ever take off more than third of the grass blades. Make sure the mower blades are sharp, or you will tear the grass rather than cut it.

Grass looked pretty awful back on April 8th. A lot of work, loads of mows and a liberal application of Weed & Feed and it was really starting to look good.

AND THEN A FECKING MOLE HAS ARRIVED

Grass is on 4 levels and the little bd has only infested 1 of them. It started with finding some small hills near the edge of the fence and right by a tree but the hills are getting further into the lawn. Get 1 every couple of days. I've just been clearing up the dirt so it looks okay. Maybe at some point it will collapse because of the tunnels underneath.

I've heard that a water hose down the hole can be effective in drowning the little gits. I'll give that a try but are there any other effective ways to send him on his way.
Trapping them is the only effective way of controlling them. I've caught 4 in my garden in the past year. They are destructive little feckers.

Hi guys, how long after laying turf should I leave it before cutting it?

Re-turfed around 50% of my small lawn a week ago, mainly due to covering some old flowerbeds, the other half of the old grass (sparse and in pretty poor condition) needs a cut, so I'm considering a cut at the longer setting on the mower to take the ends off the old lawn at least, but do I risk a tickle over the new bits?

Not unless it needs it, which is unlikely after just a week. I'd wait until the grass reaches a couple of inches in height.
