Yesterday was an enormously exciting day for me and the girlfriend;

We finally found a Tricolour Border Collie boy who will be joining us in 8 weeks.

My love affair with Collies started in 1995 with the arrival of 'Gus'. He was the very best Dog a boy could ask for and was my very loyal, wonderful companion for 15 years. He was the best boat/ car/ city/ countryside dog that anyone could ask for. Great company in any situation and enthusiastic about everything right to the end.

Through him a life long love of Border Collies was cemented and it has been a very long 5 years without one in my life.

I am so pleased to finally be in a good position to have another one, with lots of searching and waiting it is nearly time! smile

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet 'Loki';

Here he is with Mummy and his brothers and sisters;

And here is Dad;

We also got a chance to meet his Grandad as well as checking all of the hip and eye scores for both parents.

I have asked them to keep him up to 10 weeks so he has the best chances of an excellent and healthy start to life. The next 8 weeks are going to feel like an eternity!

You know that getting him at 8 weeks will be better than 10 weeks for the socialising time, that way you only have to wait 6 weeks smile.

He looks so handsome already, how exciting!

Thank you both biggrin

I think I may take heed of your advice there Bex and bring the date forward by a week.

That way he will land before the bank holiday weekend in May meaning we both get more time to settle him before going back to work.

I'd go and get him tomorrow if I could. It's all we can do to not drive back up there for another look at him!

His mum looks very similar to my boy in that she has a great 'smile'! (collie / GSD cross). Loki looks adorable!

Thanks Mustdash. He is turning into a handsome chap.

We couldn't resist 'popping' the 100 miles up the M1 this weekend to see him again and how he has grown.

Very pleased to report he is coming along well. Is already the biggest and hairiest of the litter and was very happy to be handled.

He is giving all the right signs of being quite placid when away from the others and with lots of eye contact too.

Here are some pictures of him at 4 weeks and 2 days:

Thank you for the comments guys.

I was wondering whether any of you had any thoughts on click training?

Not something I've done before but a lot of trainers seem to recommend it.

Never done it myself and not that knowledgeable in it really, however I do know that one trainer stopped using it when she had a couple dogs develop a phobic reaction to the clickers!!

I'm sure a collie won't need a clicker for training though smile.
