Well this is where I got stuck, with the only currently available UJ's one shaft was too long and the other too short. Of course if you start off with a long one snd shorten it you'd still have to spline the shortened end so I just had one made. It wasn't easy to find someone here in the North West who could do the splining, the company who made mine were called Meldon Gears 1967 ltd and are based in Liverpool. They do a lot of work for preservation groups on all sorts of classic transport, not just cars.

When I converted my car to power steering I had the same problem finding an intermediate shaft of the correct length. In the end I cut the shaft I had and bought a 100mm length of CDS tube and had it professionally welded to exactly the correct length. This tube is specifically sold for this purpose.............

(Make sure that the cut isn't adjacent to the very close diagonal chassis tube or it will foul it).

Car Builder Solutions also sell a variety of shafts and u/js.

Thanks - thought I'd cracked it earlier as the Sagaris and late T car uses a 120mm top joint but after a bit more research, seems their column is hexagon and not 3/4 spline, so think I need a longer shaft (oo'er)

Try a kit car supplier.

They do all different lengths, same spline.

I will if there's nothing amongst the TVR variables; there's a few different length ones listed - hopefully mine when I measure it will be 15mm or so shorter than a stock item. There's a couple of hotrod suppliers that do stainless 9/16 shafts too

Just to follow this up, TVR part H0349 is an intermediate shaft from the Cerbera - 335mm overall length, which is 15mm longer than the 320mm one my car has. The joints now available are approx. 15mm shorter than the originals so...

Will confirm when it turns up

Right, now have the shaft and it is indeed the 'right' length, bob on 335mm. Splines are correct both ends so the job should be a good un when I obtain another 100mm joint (cannibalised the first one to get me running again). The quality of the machining on the new shaft is miles better than the original and, an added and unanticipated bonus, is that that the working angle of the joints should be just a tad less acute with the shorter joint and longer shaft installed. maybe get chance to do it at the weekend

I tried cleaning out my reservoir but you can't get to all of the filter from the hose outlets so I has a look for how much it is for a new one. £17 for a genuine ZF for that money is was a no brainer. I fitted it yesterday and tried it today, the steering is a lot lighter and its stopped making the groaning noise when using lots of lock so my filter must of been restricting the supply to the pump. Next up is checking my UJs, so thanks to Pupp for sharing his solution to the shorter top joint.
