Working on being a member of VOA uk....Does anyone have any photos of the best position for the side indicator lights and the rear fog light?
Is it possible to fit the fog light inside the rear lights and still be >10cm from the brake light or will it have to be a seperate bolt on unit?
No doubt, there will be issues with the front lights but I'm told a halogen bulb + a purpose made wire fixing is the easiest answer.
The above and any other info for the IVA would be appreciated. Thanks.

Side indicators, you can take a feed from the front indicators and run through the engine compartment/over the wheel liner to the gills area. For the IVA test I used stick on LED units stuck to the outside of the body along the seam between the side sill and fender so they met all the visibility requirements. They were butt ugly, kind of huge and looked horrid stuck out on the side like they were, but they had e marks and could be seen. They may have subsequently been replaced by far more discrete LED strips stuck up under the overhang in the gills cut out, nice and discreet but still there.

The big factor with the IVA is e marks, when the examiner sees them its an easy tick in the box, hence why it was worth the extra few quid for e marked side repeaters even if it was only for the test.

Rear Fog can go in the offside light cluster in the left most position, you will have to take out the bulb in the center position and if you read the letter of the IVA make the wiring inoperable/more than just putting the bulb back, this maintains the 10cm separation. Leaving you with a fog light, blank space then brake/side light. The coupe light units are the same as the Gen2 though and again have the all important e marks and the notation of what bulb function goes where which was all the examiner looked at. This assumes coupe as I'm not sure if the soft top has the same light unit. Don't forget the side and stop lights have to match on both sides so the center and right most position have to be disabled on the drivers side, its probably safer not to put a fog in the drivers side for the test.

Also pay attention to when the fog should illuminate as per the table in the iva manual. I took a feed from the drivers headlight, this ensured it was only on at the same time as the dipped beams, ran it through the engine bay to the door hinge where there is a spare bolt hole into the cabin, then along under the dash through a switch mounted on the dash to the right of the steering wheel, then through a relay (there is space below the radio. The relay switched a feed and was routed along the pax side of the tunnel, up behind the pax seat into the side of the trunk and drilled through the GRP out into the light area. All pretty easy to pull it through, but again a soft top will be different and harder i understand.

Headlights will need to be replaced with a halogen (H7 or H9 i think) they fit pretty well in the HID bulb housing but you will need to make a retaining spring clip from piano wire.

You will also need to sort out the combined sidelight/indicator in the headlight as you cant have both functions in the same bulb. Disconnect the sidelight feed and use it to feed whatever you do with sidelights, this will leave the light as only the indicator. It is also probably safer to take the bulb out of the orange triangles, i didn't think they met the side repeater or front indicator requirement and muddy the water on if they should be there or not.

front side/parking light position is the hardest to meet, if you have front fogs you may get away with them but i don't think you can see them from the correct angles. anything in the center grill is pushing it on distance from the outside of the vehicle. Drilling into the bottom of the headlight is the euro way of doing it but meh....

Maybe if your nice and post a pic of what you have brought I'll post a pic of my side lights.

Trying to remember when there have been any gen IV pics from canada!

Can you spot them?

A little help

They don't look very bright from the pic but you wont miss them coming up behind you.

Stuck to the underside of the wing and clamped between it and the headlight

side illuminating stick on LED strips purchased straight from the chavtastic lighting section of halfords, even the IVA guy thought they were stock.

ah, if its a vert then obviously the cable routing to the rear lights will be much harder than a coupe, and the rear light cluster is different so i cant speak for the fog brake light separation. Worst case though is put in a temporary fog and then do something with the light cluster after the event as the mot wont care beyond it lighting up.

Don't forget if its Canadian it will have a kmph speedo and the fogs will likely be running lights

What did you do to rectify the speedo?

scratchchin - but is it the distance reading in kilometres that's the problem because the speedo is shown in both kph and mph?

Sorry misunderstanding, the Kmph speedo isnt a problem for IVA but may be irritating to live with. You do get used to converting speed limits to kmph but viper speedo's move fast and the mph on the inner ring of a metric speedo are very small and difficult to read when things are happening fast or you trying to maintain 40mph in a specs camera zone (the width of the needle is about 5mph). Plenty of gps speed phone apps though which is what i tend to do in my GTS which has a kmph speedo.

swapped the euro speedo on the gen2 for a U.S. speedo
then sold the kmph on eBay, strangely a U.S. guy brought it

as Dave says the digits are tiny and are to difficult to read at speed

you'd have to figure out how the speedo and dash interact with the PCM/BCM on a gen 4 thought, i suspect it may be more complicated these days but I cant say for sure. Its not hard to get the dash unit out thought, it was about the first thing i did on my brand new car trying to figure out what to do with the fog switch and tell light.

In the end i figured it was better to just fit a stand alone switch and light than bugger around with the indicator stalk and dash module as it all looked like a digital interface.

Good enough answers for me - point noted.

Thanks all for the help - I'll be going out to check out car in the near future and hopefully strike a deal and then I'll post photos.
Also registered on the VOA site - I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions.
