Oil Consumption on Audi A4 2.0T TFSI HELP!!!!
Discussion
Hi guys,
Ive turned to here because noone is willing to help me and i keep getting mixed messages so i hope someone out there can help. I recently bought an Audi 2ltr TSFI Quattro Sline. From the day i bought i only drove it about 160 miles it started flashing that i need to top up 1ltr oil. So i did however the person i bought from advised i dont put anymore oil as this could damage the engine and it could be the oil switch. It was fine after i topped up but then it came on again after another about 160 miles and now im scared if i should top it up again as no dipstick on these cars. The light is currently on at the moment saying i need to top up another 1ltr. Is this a common problem? Do i top up again? I have got it booked at a Audi garage so they can monitor oil consumption for next week. But my oil light is on please guys help?

Hi mate,
It could be a problem with a sensor, for example the windscreen fluid light keeps popping up on mine even though it's near full. I'd be surprised if you are actually consuming that much oil per 150 odd miles, are you sure there was any in when you bought it lol?
My advice would be to buy good oil (from somewhere like Opie, and not standard supermarket rammel) and top it up. Then you can monitor how much you use by manually checking. Bit of a ballache as there's no dipstick with your variation of the car, but you can buy a dipstick for manually checking in future. For the mean time, you can check via the MMI which is under car settings. Make sure engine is off but ignition is on, and obviously be on a flat surface..
In the mean time, just drive as normal and keep the revs down until you get it into the Audi garage, they will know what's up with it.

This is why I hate cars with no dipstick!
The only safe way is to drain all the oil and refill with the exact amount as stated in service book.
Then keep an eye on it.
How do you keep an eye on it though, with no dipstick? The only safe way is to drain all the oil and refill with the exact amount as stated in service book.

Thoroughly pathetic design, just another reason not to own anything German again. Same problem with an M5 we had, no dipstick, pathological liar for an on board display. I could have torched it for that alone!
I'm not known to be a patient man when faced with design stupidity!
These have a dipstick tube under the engine cover that just has a bung fitted. I'm pretty sure you can buy a normal dipstick from Audi to fit.
If your car is using 1ltr of oil every 160 miles then I'd suggest it has a pretty serious leak or the engine is knackered. Really need to have someone take a look around the usual post service culprits (filter housing), sump plug etc...
