Current drain

I've noticed that with everything 'off' in the car including the interior light - but with a door open my Accumate trickle charger fails to maintain the 'high' battery voltage. Presumably the door or main ECU is drawing current for a 'door open' warning as there are obviously no relays for the door switches to activate the interior lights. Just seems a slightly odd logic and could lead to a flat battery if you didn't realise there is an additional current drain over and above the normal level. Comments?

Some radio/CD players also cause a small current drain,try removing the front face (if removable). The boot light can also cause this problem.

Everything is fine with the door closed - it's just when it is left open there is a current draw which seems odd to me.

Bob,
You could be right in assuming the "door open alarm" draws something more than 100-200 Ma. I guess the warning buzzer would account for some of that.

Best way is to check parasitic current drain - YouTube video here:

So - with door open and multimeter set to MAX current (initially) and connected as advised in video, I'd pull fuse to lcd display (??) and see if that answers your Q.
