Hello all

Just planning our annual trip to the Algarve - for a change (and to save some change!) we are flying into Lisbon on a Friday afternoon and driving down to Quinta do Lago on the Saturday.

We'll be picking up a car at the airport so will be mobile and would hugely appreciate some hotel suggestions within striking distance of the airport in the general direction of the Algarve (perhaps just the other side of the Ponte de Vasco da Gama?!).

Doesn't need to be the Emirates Palace as it's only an overnight but something in the middle in terms of cost and facilities would be lovely.

This is the only hotel I stay in Lisbon. No idea how it fits in with your plans, but it's great smile

That looks very nice - I'd definitely stay there on business but I should have mentioned the 3 terrors (under ten) in tow.

Location-wise I like the idea of already being on the way south and I tend to head across the big bridge rather than heading through town.

I know this isn't what you asked but personally with kids in tow I'd get straight down to the algarve on the friday. If you're landing in the afternoon its not like anyone is going to want or need a sleep is it.

Going from the airport into central lisbon, then back out to down here (im in the algarve) the next day sounds like a right load of hassle. If you try and pick a hotel thats on your exact your route you're going to end up staying somewhere with very little to see - which would appear utterly pointless given its a 2 hour trip, its not like you need to break it up.

It would be far less hassle to pick up the car from the airport and straight onto the motorway for the 2hr down to here surely?

If flying into Lisbon is cheaper and you don't want to drive the same day yourself, perhaps one option would be to use a transfer company to get you down here, then pick up a car locally? I don't know how much they'd charge but http://www.yellowfishtransfers.com/en/home are good around the algarve... fair priced, drivers all sensible and english speaking. Free wifi in the cars too.

Anyway I realise I'm answering a question you didn't ask so I'll shut up now unless you do have any questions laugh

Totally forgot about this thread - belated thanks for your input KFC!

Still not made any bookings, will speak to Four Seasons in Quinta (where we have a timeshare villa) and see if they can accommodate us the night before - does make sense to get down there on the Friday if possible.
