Hi All,

A bit of a boring family wagon but I am looking at purchasing the above car with higher miles (80-100K) and was wondering if there are any common faults or things to look out for apart from the obvious? (cambelt etc)

Any help appreciated.

We have had an 08 plate 170ps sport for 7 years and it hasn't needed anything other than routine servicing. I think though that the electronic parking brake can fail which requires the replacement of which ever rear calliper has the fault and it's not cheap to replace.

The car engines are pretty reliable. The common issues are dpf sensors which can get too hot and fail. Additionally there have been occasional egr/turbo failures etc but tbh what modern diesel doesn't? Otherwise just normal things check the clutch and flywheel feels/sounds good, check its properly service and it drives nicely with no sluggishness etc

My 2011 Golf with the same engine is on 100k miles and seems fine. For doing a lot of motorway driving they work very well which is probably why you see so many high milers for sale.

Clutch/ DMF might be on its way out at miles depending on what sort of life its had. Cambelt due at 120k.
