I was recently appointed to head up a small house builder to drive the business forward, answering directly to the Chief Executive.

The guy is hard to please, but doesn't really do the strategic role a CEO should and wants to stick his nose into everyone's business.

Friday night my exact role is advertised via a head hunter.

I know they are allowed legally to advertise it.

just a bit of a s trick.

Ill await the Cool Story Bro

Is there a question here, or do you want advice?

The obvious one there would be to start looking for something else and move on before you're fired...

Dream CEO really.

Half the time executives don't fundamentally understand the business and even if they did most couldn't execute a parallel park much less a business strategy. It'd be a very dangerous proposition to let executives run a company.

Can you pm me the details, I might apply smile

Tbh. It's not unusual in house building, an industry full of bds. Work out what you want from your compromise agreement.

FWIW most CEOs I've worked for have been hard to please and stick their nose into everybody's business. That's generally why they get to be CEO. And if your CEO is also the owner then everybody's business is actually THEIR business IYSWIM smile

These things happen.

While I won't rule out your conclusion, many recruitment agencies advertise non existing jobs to get people on their books.

OP. Is the role advertised with PSD? There is one that matches your description. If so, I would be tempted to call the lead Directr there and grill him. I can pm you his name if you don't know it

I once enquired about a job that looked tailor made for me. The recruiter, who had placed me, diplomatically explained that the vacancy was for the role held by the person at the desk next to me. She did not know that was being moved out! Scary, but useful when it came to salary review as I knew what was being offered to new hires for the same level positions.

Apply for it under a different name and see what happens. Could be fun.

Oh, and start looking for a new job pronto.

I applied yonks ago for a job and it was a post box in the paper looking for a sparkie.... anyway got the interview and was at the place and getting a tour round - first impressions guy was a complete nut job. and not very nice at all....

I had asked how many applicants he had got and he told me that he had got 5 and one of them was the guy Id be replacing but he never knew it yet.... even pointed him out to me.

Never been an arse in interviews but this guy was seriously pushing buttons - I ended up walking up to the guy and aksed him if he had applied for a job with a post box number in the paper - he looks and asks how I know I said I had applied for the same one - his words were not to bother as he was desperate to leave as it was a ste job. He then promptly quit and I took him for a beer....

Felt that I had a lucky escape indeed.

Op. if the worst happens and you are replaced? Your at have s strong case for constructive dismissal. Make sure you copy the ad. Get confirmation from the agency which company big is, pref in writing and maybe speak to an employment lawyer.

Ignore this. A business is perfectly entitled to plan around a forthcoming firing and is under no obligation here to wait for the incumbent to be made aware before they begin looking for a replacement. Note the 'recently' in the OP and consider what effect this may have on his employment rights.

The recently in the op is a fair point, but I have been in a similar situation in the past (housebuilding can be cut throat), because I had the info it helped me negotiate the compromise agreement. I got 12 months salary rather than my contractual 6 months. This makes a big difference when looking for a job at that level as it can take time.

It also depends how the business chooses to frame the firing, if they called it redundancy then the ad would suggest that is not the case.

As the gents above say, look for another job and when you have one then apply for your current job and ask not to work with a wker and also ask for more pay.
