You are in your turbo injection 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the traffic is hopeless, so you just have to back off and sit back and chill.
An old friend used to say "Just Jingle" a great phrase for not becoming dangerously wound up.

Put my favourite "Just Jingle" track on the hifi

What's yours?

Love it or loathe it, I can pretty much credit the Fast and Furious movie franchise for my love of cars.

Given the tragedy with Paul Walker and his respectful send-off in FF7, -that- song always makes me take it down a notch and reflect. I'm not a maniac driver; these days I rarely go for an actual spirited drive. However, when that song comes on the radio/on shuffle, I dial it back a bit and just think. One of my best buddies could be bimbling along in all safety and get wiped out by someone that ran a red light. It's not always about your 500bhp M6 that you could break the law in less than 6 seconds, but it's the tt who's spent more than half of the last minute accelerating to 71 only to T-bone said M6 and spill your brain out all over his bonnet.

Accidents can strike anyone and as much of a good driver as you are, there's really no way you can mitigate the lowest denominators of licence holders and the ridiculous things they do - just see that thread in GG about the idiots in the BMW that rammed a Merc and a Prius for absolutely no reason.

Philosophical mode off. Here's the song.

I'm glad this was the first response as it's exactly what was going through my mind too.

Not really much of a song is it, nor is radio 3!

Not a bad call.

I sometimes put Lou Reed on, especially if I am in a traffic jam on a dirty boulevard and I just want to fly away!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z3TPwOT31g

Lou Reed – Dirty Blvd. Lyrics
Pedro lives out of the Wilshire Hotel
he looks out a window without glass
The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet
his father beats him 'cause he's too tired to beg

He's got 9 brothers and sisters
they're brought up on their knees
it's hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the thighs
Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man
but that's a slim chance he's going to the boulevard

He's going to end up, on the dirty boulevard
he's going out, to the dirty boulevard
He's going down, to the dirty boulevard

This room cost 2,000 dollars a month
you can believe it man it's true
somewhere a landlord's laughing till he wets his pants
No one here dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything
they dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard

Give me your hungry, your tired your poor I'll piss on 'em
that's what the Statue of Bigotry says
Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death
and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard

Get to end up, on the dirty boulevard
going out, to the dirty boulevard
He's going down, on the dirty boulevard
going out

Outside it's a bright night
there's an opera at Lincoln Center
movie stars arrive by limousine
The klieg lights shoot up over the skyline of Manhattan
but the lights are out on the Mean Streets

A small kid stands by the Lincoln Tunnel
he's selling plastic roses for a buck
The traffic's backed up to 39th street
the TV wes are calling the cops out for a suck

And back at the Wilshire, Pedro sits there dreaming
he's found a book on magic in a garbage can
He looks at the pictures and stares at the cracked ceiling
"At the count of 3" he says, "I hope I can disappear"

And fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard
I want to fly, from dirty boulevard
I want to fly, from dirty boulevard
I want to fly-fly-fly-fly, from dirty boulevard

I want to fly away
I want to fly
Fly, fly away
I want to fly
Fly-fly away (Fly a-)
fly-fly-fly (-way, ooohhh...)
Fly-fly away (I want to fly-fly a

No, but I find that concentrating on detailed information takes my focus away from the driving, so I go into autopilot, rather than thinking about things more carefully and making progress.

If I listen to even quite chilled music (Dave Brubeck), I get into a fast driving rhythm, which I find makes me go quicker.

Fous de la Mer - Watersong

Good call Zad, I particularly like Baker Man which I have not heard before.

Another old faithful one to chill to would be Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells.

Tom Waits - either Closing Time or The Heart Of Saturday Night.
Massive Attack - Mezzanine.
Beethoven - 6th Symphony (Pastoral).
Julie London - anything!
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

It would have to be the live version of Shine on

and old Ludwig Van on Clockwork Orange

Massive Attack is weird and may make my driving more weird than it already is!

Mezzanine is one of those albums that I really want on vinyl, it just seems the best way to play it. Slight snag being that I don't have a turntable any more. Maybe I could just walk around with it under my arm like a hipster wink

Or, for a somewhat 'different' mode of driving....

Hocus Pocus by Focus
Heres a pretty far out performance of that track......nice.
